VIRGINIA — While the western section of the I-66 Express Lanes outside the Beltway is open with tolling and HOV rules, work continues on various sections of the project. The Virginia Department of Transportation says temporary ramp closures are planned throughout the week of Sept. 25.

On Monday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the ramps from northbound and southbound Route 29/Lee Highway in Gainesville to eastbound I-66 will be closed for paving. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 west, take the ramp to Route 15, stay left, use the left lane to southbound Route 15, and follow signs to eastbound I-66.

From Monday to Wednesday, nightly closures are planned on the ramp from Route 234 Business/Sudley Road to eastbound I-66 in the Manassas area. The nightly closures will happen between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for repaving. Northbound traffic will be detoured to continue north, turn right onto northbound Route 29, continue four miles to the Route 29 interchange in Centreville and follow signs for eastbound I-66.

From southbound Route 234 Business, traffic will be detoured to turn right onto Balls Ford Road, turn left at the traffic signal onto Miramar Drive, turn left at the traffic signal onto Coverstone Drive, then turn left at the traffic signal onto northbound Route 234 Business North. Like the northbound detour, traffic will continue north, turn right onto northbound Route 29, continue four miles to the Route 29 interchange in Centreville and follow signs for eastbound I-66.

The ramp from Route 234 Business to westbound I-66 will also be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday and Friday for paving. Traffic will follow a detour north of I-66 to southbound Route 29, travel about four miles and follow signs to westbound I-66. Another alternative is going west on Balls Ford Road, turning right onto Route 234 Bypass and following signs to westbound I-66.

In addition, the ramp from Route 234 Bypass/Prince William Parkway to eastbound I-66 will be closed nightly Monday through Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured to westbound I-66, exit to northbound Route 29, turn left onto southbound Route 29, and stay right to eastbound I-66.

VDOT says the Route 29 and Route 234 ramp closures will not happen on nights when detours conflict with other closures.

At the I-66/495 interchange in Fairfax County, the ramp from eastbound I-66 to northbound I-495 will be closed nightly from Monday to Wednesday. The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured to southbound I-495, exit to eastbound Route 50/Arlington Boulevard, stay right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to northbound Fairview Park, bear left at the traffic signal, and stay to the right following signs to northbound I-495.

The ramp from northbound I-495 to westbound I-66 will also be closed nightly from Monday to Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured to continue north, exit at westbound Route 7/Leesburg Pike, stay right to southbound I-495 and follow signs to westbound I-66.

From Tuesday to Thursday, the ramp from northbound I-495 to eastbound I-66 will be closed nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will continue to westbound I-66 to Nutley Street, stay left, turn left onto southbound Nutley Street, stay right and follow signs to eastbound I-66.

In the Oakton/Fairfax area, the ramp from northbound and southbound Route 123/Chain Bridge Road to westbound I-66 will be closed nightly Monday through Thursday for paving. Traffic will be directed to eastbound I-66, exit to Nutley Street, stay to the left turn left at the traffic signal onto northbound Nutley Street, stay to the right and follow signs to westbound I-66.
