Vienna Police are investigating a hate-related case where a man on a scooter yelled racial slurs.

VIENNA, VA — Racial slurs were yelled at a couple walking in Vienna last Friday, according to the latest Vienna Police report.

The hate-related assault happened around the Maple Avenue and W&OD Trail SE as the couple was walking home from Whole Foods. According to police, a man yelled racial slurs, made obscene gestures and kicked the couple's grocery bag.

The man left the area but returned and continued the behavior as the couple called police. The man fled before police arrived.

Police say the case remains under investigation. A suspect description was not released by police.

A resident reported her vehicle was legally parked on the street when someone broke her driver’s side window.

Dollar Tree 264 Cedar Lane, SE September 6 9:00 a.m.
A citizen reported her cell phone and phone case containing her credit cards and driver’s license were stolen while she was in the store. Someone immediately attempted to use one of the credit cards but was unsuccessful with the transaction. The citizen was later able to ping her phone to a residence in Fairfax County. She went to the home where the homeowner advised her daughter admitted to taking the phone. The property was returned, and the citizen refused to pursue prosecution in the case.
