Robbery Of Mail Carrier In Vienna Prompts Charges For 2 People

Vienna Police believe two suspects are tied to mail theft from collection boxes and the robbery of a mail carrier.

VIENNA, VA — Vienna Police have made an arrest in the robbery of a U.S. Postal Service carrier last summer.

Police had responded on June 2, 2023 to the robbery of the mail carrier on his route on Church Street NE in Vienna. The suspect had pepper sprayed the mail carrier and stole postal property.

Around the time of the incident, there were a series of thefts involving U.S. Postal Service's blue collection boxes in the Vienna, Fairfax and Oakton areas. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service became involved with the investigation.

Vienna Police identified two suspects believed to be involved in the robbery and mail collection box thefts. On Friday, Vienna detectives, Fairfax County SWAT, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service carried out a search warrant in the 3000 block of Borge Street in Oakton and arrested the suspects, a juvenile and 19-year-old, Amr Abdalla. Charges include robbery, assault with a caustic substance, and identity theft.

The investigation is ongoing. Vienna Police thanked tips from residents that led to closure in the investigation as well as support from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Fairfax County Police Department.
