Suspect Fleeing Police Attempts To Enter Vienna Homes: Police

A man is facing charges after a pursuit where people were nearly hit in a Vienna shopping center parking lot.

VIENNA, VA — A man is in custody after a chaotic April 18 pursuit in which people were nearly struck by his vehicle and he attempted to enter homes, according to Vienna Police.

Around 2:28 p.m., Vienna Police responded to a vehicle in the 300 block of Maple Avenue East matching a lookout for a reckless driver. According to police, the driver saw police and sped through a shopping center, nearly hitting several people.

A second responding officer found the suspect vehicle in the traffic circle at Locust Street and Park Street SE. Police attempted a traffic stop after the suspect turned right onto Moore Avenue SE.

Police say the driver ended up fleeing from the moving vehicle, leaving a female passenger inside, until the vehicle crashed into an empty parked car. Witnesses told police the suspect jumped several fenced and attempted to enter homes. Another officer spotted the suspect running in the front yard of a home and attempting to enter the locked home. He was detained by officers at the scene.

Police learned that the suspect, John Thomas Prince IV, 33, of Haymarket, had six outstanding arrest warrants from Prince William County Police and one from Fairfax County Police. According to court documents, Prince faces two counts of petit larceny and four counts of shoplifting in Prince William County. Another petit larceny charge came from Fairfax County.

Vienna Police charged Prince with felony eluding, two counts of felony destruction of property, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license DUI related, and two counts of attempted unlawful entry. He was held without bond.
