VIENNA, VA — As the Town of Vienna considers long-term uses for the former Faith Baptist Church building now known as the Annex, demolition will start Monday.

The town purchased the building at 301 Center Street S in fall 2020 and let the Vienna Police Department use it as its temporary location while its police station was being rebuilt. Town Council voted in 2023 to demolish the building, as the town estimated it would cost less than a partial demolition and renovation.

The town said demolition will happen on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. until the end of May. The site is fenced off and will not cause traffic impacts on Center Street S.

Meanwhile, temporary uses of the property are being considered as long-term uses are being studied. According to the town, the property will first be used for equipment and storage of materials for road, traffic and sidewalk projects. Additional uses for parks and recreation and other town government uses are undergoing permitting within the next year.

As for long-term uses, a previous study done by consultant Kimmel Bogrette Architecture + Site found a pool was a popular option residents would like to see at the site. A feasibility study is underway to evaluate the costs of the most sought-after options for the site.
