VIENNA, VA — It's been a long closure for Metrorail riders at the Vienna and Dunn Loring stations, but rail service will resume Monday.

The two Orange Line stations have been closed since June 3 for two shutdowns related to rail replacement and fiber-optic cable installation. The first shutdown from June 3 to June 25 closed the East Falls Church and West Falls Church stations as well, which cut off Silver Line service running from Ashburn to McLean and Ballston to Largo Town Center, but those stations reopened on June 26.

Vienna and Dunn Loring stations remained closed as crews continued rail replacement on this section of the Metrorail tracks. According to Metro, crews replaced nearly 25 miles of the 40-year-old rail between Ballston-MU and Vienna. The work also included adding 415 new welds to connect the rails, and removing over 97,000 linear feet of vegetation that could cause obstructions around the stations.

Vienna and Dunn Loring Metrorail riders had free shuttle buses as alternatives during the shutdowns, including an express shuttle between Vienna and West Falls Church on weekdays.

The next Metro shutdown will happen on the Green Line. Green Line service will be shut down from Fort Totten and Greenbelt from Saturday, July 22, to Monday, Sept. 4. Red Line service will remain at Fort Totten.
