Police Arrest Fredericksburg Suspect Wanted In Triangle Homicide

TRIANGLE, VA — A man wanted for a November 2023 homicide in Triangle was arrested Wednesday, according to Prince William County Police.

The U.S. Marshals Service took Tyus James Terrell, 27, of Fredericksburg, into custody in the area of Dale Blvd and Neabsco Mills Rd in Woodbridge. Police had identified Terrell as the suspect the day after the homicide and offered an increased award up to $10,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

The homicide happened on Nov. 14, 2023 in the 3700 block of Wharf Lane in Triangle. Police had responded to gunshots and found a 26-year-old man who had been shot lying on the ground. The man was taken to the hospital and later died of his injuries.

The victim was identified as Quatrail Raynard Smalls, 26, of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation and that the victim and suspect knew each other.

Since police identified Terrell as the suspect on Nov. 15, 2023, police obtained warrants for his arrest. With assistance from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, police conducted multiple search warrants in Spotsylvania County but were not able to locate the suspect.

Terrell was charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held without bond, and a court date is pending.
