Hi there! Thank you for checking my profile. My name is Fred.

I have been teaching for more than 9 years now, and I can say, teaching is my passion! Since teaching isn't just a job for me, you can be assured that I care, not just about completing a session, but also about your growth in every session. Your goal and growth will be my priority.

I believe every student has different learning styles and learning goals. My teaching style and approach for every student depends on their needs and style but whatever goals or style you may have, I will definitely do my best to help you CONNECT.

As for credentials, I am a licensed teacher here in the Philippines with a major in Secondary Education. The experience I had teaching in High School for 7 years equipped me with mastery, clarity, and excellence.

I’ve been taking classes with Fred regularly for about 6 months now and cannot recommend him enough as a teacher. For context, I grew up knowing very basic Tagalog (like common phrases, common objects around the house, and pronouns, for example) but had really begun my Tagalog-learning journey with a beginner’s course from a different teacher in a group-setting and continued on with some self-teaching. So, by the time I was connected with Fred, I would classify myself as more of an advanced-beginner, who could understand quite a bit but still was not confident speaking or forming sentences at all. Fred was able to determine my skill level and what I did and didn’t know pretty quickly over the first few lessons and adapted our lesson plans according to my needs. He has some very clear powerpoint slides and files prepared to help explain the breakdown of the different conjugation types which I found extremely helpful for me since I absolutely cannot absorb any information orally and often need to see it written out haha. He not only is very patient but he also fosters a very comforting environment where you really feel like you’re not being judged because he wants you to succeed. For quite a while I was extremely shy to even try to speak Tagalog with him and would focus purely on understanding the rules to the language, but he was always so encouraging and allowed me to build up some confidence. Now the majority of our lessons are spent conversing in Tagalog as much as possible which has really helped boost my confidence when speaking with others outside of class as well. You can tell that Fred has a real passion for teaching and for the language as a whole because — I’m sure he can attest to this — I will often ask a million questions during the course of our lesson and he will always have an answer for me, or will at the very least come back with an answer by the next lesson if he has to think about it haha. He’s helped explain some concepts that I’ve struggled with for a long time in such clear ways that now I’m much more comfortable and confident using those concepts and forming sentences without thinking too much about it. Classes with Fred can be so much fun, especially if you don’t take yourself too seriously and just enjoy the process. I really look forward to each of our lessons and know that he’s ready to help me on my journey to fluency. If you are considering taking a class with Fred, I say just do it!! You won’t regret it.

I've been taking classes with Fred since January 2021 (over three years now!!) and he has been everything I had hoped for and more. I would be remiss to describe him as anything less than an excellent tutor. He has a deep understanding of Tagalog, which is evident in his accessible lessons. He's always willing to take the time to explain the nuances of grammar, which was so important for my learning process. He puts kindness and energy into lessons. He's been actively invested in my learning and growth at all stages. And it goes without saying, but outside of lessons he is responsive and flexible beyond compare. As a Filipino-American kid just trying to make sense of my identity, learning Tagalog was always an unrealized dream for me. If you're considering Fred as your Tagalog tutor, look no further. Tagalog for beginners

I've provided lessons for beginners in Tagalog. As a beginner, we go through basic things like proper greetings, introducing oneself, giving directions, etc. We will also study the most challenging yet the most exciting part of the language - the verbs. I will also help you understand the context of conversations through listening and reading. I can also help you learn specific areas of learning in Tagalog.

Conversational Tagalog

As a native speaker, I can help my students figure out the meaning of the conversation from its context. I will also help them figure out the meaning behind idiomatic expressions and slang lingo. I can teach them read the 'txtspeak,' and write conversational social media posts.
