    About me

As you may all know, the shortcut to mastering a foreign language is practicing the target language in all four parts, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Because it is a new language for the foreign language learner, the student is like a baby born into a new world. You will have to listen to your mother and speak after her so that you can speak a foreign language like a mother tongue. In this respect, you need a close care and your own effort to walk alone.

Korean language, just like other languages, has naturally developed words and borrowed words from other languages, such as English and Chinese. So we have native words like 사랑 (love) and 어머니(mother), and borrowed words from both English meaning and Chinese characters like 적자 (적[red] 자[letter]) and 흑자 (흑[black] 자[letter]). 스케줄 is from English word “schedule,” and 학교 is from Chinese word “學校.”

Korean language is a phonetic language. Therefore, its sound matters because it represents different ideas depending on how you say it. For example, 저 사람은 말이 많다. This can be either “That person is talkative, or that person has a lot of horses.” 말(mal) means word when it is said long, and horse when it is said short.

Korean language belongs to the Ural-Altaic languages just like Turkish, Mongolic, and Japanese. Therefore, the sentence structure follows Subject + Object + Verb. 나는(I) 너를 (you) 사랑한다 (love). If you know the basics of Korean language, you can build up on it very easily. I can help you out with this skill since I am skilled at Korean grammar.

I am an author of Korean Grammar book. It is a kindle book entitled "Korean the Simplest Phonetic Language in the World." I also have two more Korean language books in Kindle. Plus, I am an experienced teacher.

I taught English to Korean students most of my life, and Korean language to English native speaker professors and the international students visiting the university where I taught as a full time professor. I have master's degree in English from an American university and a doctorate degree in the same field from a Korean university. I wrote my doctorate dissertation in Korean. I am currently on-line bachelor's course manager professor and an active freelance English and Korean, and vice versa, translator for both online and offline company. I am a standing translator for the Korea poets Society, Dicapoem.

I teach efficiently with good and simple example sentences for the students’ better understanding of grammar, pronunciation, and semantics. I like to engage students in studies by assigning them projects so that they can spend time learning the language even after the class hours, and I let open my communication lines even after the designated teaching hours, so students can ask questions and receive answers from me.

I like to know the level of students' ability in Korean before the class starts so that I can prepare materials for the class. Book now for my classes and let me know your Korean ability first. Thank you.

The lesson with Mr. Lee Sunghee was pleasant as always. He really want you to learn a lot and will try to push you to the limits. This is good. He can answer even the most obscure questions, so I finally got my answer and learnt something about ancient Korean. This is not to say that Mr. Lee teaches old Korean, far from it, I am saying this to prove that he knows things others do not know. If you are interested in Korean , history and culture, Mr. Lee is your guy. He KNOWS that. He also know the slight differences in meaning of similar words and expression and can explain it very well. Do you know the difference between: 읽어 오다 and 읽고 오다? I did not, now I know. Thanks to the teacher. I have fond memories of our classes before I joined Preply and the teacher have not changed at all. He is always hardworking, always energetic and supportive. He loves Korean language and he WILL transfer that love to you by any means necessary. I high recommend watching his Youtube channel. He has a lot of interesting videos, but the interactive lectures with him are the best. I asked him, If he would provide me some materials and he sent them to me rightaway. Mr Lee is not some teacher, he is THE teacher. His enthusiasm is ageless inspiration to me.

I have been taking Korean lessons with Sunghee for a few months now and have had an extremely positive experience. As a former English teacher, I was looking for a tutor that would bring relevant materials and assign some light review/homework and Sunghee does just that. In addition, he has extreme command of the English language with a PhD in it. Truly I feel he is fluent in both languages and able to express difficult sentiments. His classes flow logically and he is able to tailor it for what you want to learn. I am blown away at how smart he is, and also always enjoy our classes with his sense of humor. When I visited Korea, we met up for a lovely afternoon. I am so grateful and lucky to have chosen him as a teacher. I would absolutely recommend him for someone who wants a kind and engaging teacher who is committed to learning the language. Thank you!!

I have been working with 이 선생님 for three months now with two lessons a week, and I can't express how glad I am that I found him. I honestly feel like I'm getting more than my money's worth. When I was searching for a teacher, my most important criteria were that I wanted someone who was structured, experienced and knowledgable. I did not want unstructured lessons with a native speaker who never learned how to actually teach and can't explain things. 이 선생님 fulfills all these criteria and more. Before I started the lessons, I studied Korean on my own for a year or so, but despite my worries, he was quickly able to gauge my level, and we immediately started working on listening and speaking, my weakest areas. He has a clear goal in mind for his students, but he also happily takes suggestions and answers any questions that I have, so I really feel like the lessons are specifically tailored to me. The same goes for homework. He knows people can have busy schedules, which means homework is never overwhelming but keeps me working at a good pace. I tend to be a little shy, so I was really nervous before the first few lessons, but he has a unique ability to quickly create a relaxed atmosphere, and he guides me through my lessons with professionalism and humor. I have honestly yet to experience a boring class. Another thing that stands out is his kindness. Let's be honest, Korean is tough, and it will teach you patience or it will teach you failure. Whenever I am frustrated by the process and feel like I can never learn Korean, he responds with great compassion and cheers me up when I can't do it myself. If you are serious about learning Korean and want to work with a teacher that is experienced as well as funny and creates a comfortable learning environment, you should definitely book a trial lesson and see for yourself. I hope my teacher takes good care of his health so that he can continue to instruct me for a long time. 감사합니다 선생님!

It was brilliant learning Korean with the professor! We spent two months doing two classes every week, with homework in between. Not only did I learn Korean vocabulary and grammar, both spoken and written, but also important cultural information and really good practical tips. After the classes, I spent three weeks on my own in Korea and had an absolutely brilliant time, often getting compliments on my Korean from the native speakers I interacted with. As we got on so well in class, I even visited the professor during my trip and had a really lovely day visiting various places in and around his city. I would highly recommend the experience!

Thank you professor. I actually love the lessons with him. He has the patience and the right dose of lightness that make the lessons full of new things but never heavy. I hope to be a good student and over time to be able to speak as I wish. I love the Korean language, it's harmonious in pronunciation (I need to practice more 🙈) and I'm passionate about it more and more.감사합니다 교수님
