About me
As strange as it may sound, I approach my role as English teacher/tutor as similar to a doctor. When I meet a new client, I go over their exam, listen to them speak, listen to their goals and begin to construct a unique plan for them. I pinpoint the most important things we must correct and we go from there. I do not believe in a "one-size-fits-all-approach". Each language learner is unique and their differences must be respected. I work to customize each student's strategy, so we can make the most effective use of our time together. I spend extra hours outside of class collecting and making material specifically for each student. Our time should be enjoyable but as efficient as possible.
I know what it's like to struggle to learn other languages. I am not a "natural" at learning languages. I worked hard to learn Spanish and I am working hard to learn Russian now. I have been teaching English for over four years now.
My BA is in Political Science/History, my MS in Global Security and I have a Cambridge Celta in English Instruction. I work with you to find the best way FOR YOU to learn and be successful. Learning with Matthew is always fun for our kids (9 and 12 y/o). He keeps track of what they do at school and practices these topics with them. He is highly aware of the kids moods and actual power and works conciders this. He keeps us informed about their progress and maybe problems. We recommend Matthew!

Rarely do I write reviews, but now I feel obliged to. Matthew makes you feel that you are smart, not him - which is very nice - but through every bit of what he says you can see he has a deep insight about the world in general, people and virtually any topic you can come up with. Always patient and always open - he really is interested in what you say, he thinks about it; his questions are pertinent and have you uncover the aspects of the topic you haven't yet taken into account. With an approach: ,,We can talk about everything, provided we talk in English" you can really focus on learning the language, and not finding the topic that will appeal to your tutor - because Matthew seems to be interested in virtually anything. Open, intelligent, funny, patient, flexible and yet humble - cannot recommend enough!
