The extension to the sunset clause on the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) to 2035 has now been officially confirmed. HMRC Treasury has confirmed the extension of the Enterprise Investment Scheme relief and Venture Capital Trusts relief to shares issued before 6 April 2035. An extension to the clause was announced last November and passed through parliament in the Finance Act 2024 in February. Yesterday was confirmed as the appointed day that the extension came into force: “3rd September 2024 is appointed as the day on which section 11 (extension of enterprise investment scheme relief and venture capital trusts relief to shares issued before 6 April 2035) of the Finance Act 2024 comes into force.” Our thanks to the Tax and Technical committee chaired by Philip Hare, the EISA Board and all EISA members who have worked so hard with us to confirm this extension. Thank you also to partner organisations who have worked with us on this, including The Association of Investment Companies (AIC), British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA), Enterprise Nation, The Entrepreneurs Network, Startup Coalition, UK Business Angels Association, Venture Capital Trust Association (VCTA) among many others. The dust may be settling on Thursday's inaugural Female Founders Growth Summit but I can safely say that energy levels have rocketed. Driven by the recommendations set out in the Pathways Report, the teams at Pathways Forward and Female Founders Rise decided earlier this year to act on some of the principles of the report by organising an event that would help to connect the dots for female founders planning or already scaling their businesses. The ambition was for them to not just be inspired, but be better connected and able to see what the next steps might look like for them in their scale up journey and aim bigger. Going by the massive engagement and positive sentiment on social media post-event, we have achieved that and much more. What made the day really work was not us. It was the 250+ people that made up the attendee list and put the day aside to join us on the mission to fast forward the scale-up opportunity for women entrepreneurs. A mix of sponsors, investors, finance providers, supporters and female founders at different ends of their growth journey came together to create a special and unique atmosphere. We heard from the amazing Sahar Hashemi OBE and £50m+ superscaler Sam Smith about their inspiring yet totally relatable journeys and everyone leaned in and was excited to play a key part in making the day work. We require collective thinking and collaboration to get things done and we were not short of it at the RBS Conference Centre in Edinburgh on Thursday. I'd like to say a massive thanks to Jo Forster, Emmie Faust, Hannah Thompson, Vanessa Shepherd and Shelley Jukes for putting so much time in to this during the months leading up to the day. And special thanks to Irene Graham OBE and the ScaleUp Institute for helping us realise the ambition we had for the Summit. I'm extremely grateful. Thanks too to RBS Scottish Enterprise The Scottish National Investment Bank EY British Business Bank Eos for all your support. And thanks Eloho Efemuai for helping me achieve 20 new connections and for giving me the chance to hear about your business. I hope you left the event with clearer next steps 😉 Let's keep doing more of this, please. It would be a waste not to grab the momentum now. At Laverock we are continuing to validate the unique features of our technology and now have a complete set of data in human cells demonstrating the ability to silence genes in a programmable, tunable, stable and highly specific manner. We have also demonstrated that the technology can be used to concomitantly silence more than one target gene, further expanding the range of its potential therapeutic applications. The attached data shows simultaneous silencing of two different targets using Laverock’s gene silencing RNAs. GFP-expressing human iPS cells were edited to express RNA of two designs - one targeting GFP the other targeting B2M. This leads to the silencing of both targets with highly correlated efficiencies (GEiGS/WT, GEiGS/GEiGS). The silencing is highly homogenous and the efficiency is also dependent on whether the edit is mono- (GEiGS/WT) or bi-allelic (GEiGS/GEiGS). This shows that Laverock’s approach, can enable the stable and homogenous silencing of multiple targets simultaneously. The silencing efficiency can be tuned through the design of the silencing RNAs and number of alleles edited. We look forward to presenting more detail and further scientific developments at conferences over the rest of the year. Do get in touch if you’d like to discuss our technology and follow us to keep up to date on our news advances. #cellandgenetherapy #genesilencing #advancedtherapies
