A lung cancer diagnosis often carries with it stigma created by assumptions about the cause that can make it especially difficult for individuals to talk about it in the workplace. Aside from smoking, other risk factors for lung cancer include exposure to a range of organic metals, as well as radon gas, which is the second-leading cause of lung cancer and is often found in indoor spaces. With World Lung Cancer Day coming up, companies are in a position to foster supportive dialogue through education of lesser-known causes of lung-cancer. These efforts can have a ripple effect, creating empathy and support for impacted colleagues without assuming smoking played a role. Has a lung cancer diagnosis impacted you in the workplace? We want to hear your story, be it one of supportive coworkers or overcoming the stigma.
