Princess Leonor of Spain takes inspiration from Queen Letizia as she chooses a scarlet power suit in Portugal on her first solo trip abroad

Princess Leonor of Spain wowed in a red power suit as she travelled to Portugal on her first official solo visit abroad.

The royal, 18, stuck with what she knew and took style inspiration from her mother, Queen Letizia - who often sports eye-catching, vibrant ensembles.

The heir to the Spanish throne donned a ruby outfit consisting of a crisp button-up blazer and matching flared trousers

Not wanting to draw attention away from her bold fashion statement, Leonor stepped out in satin nude heels and wore a simple white t-shirt underneath her jacket.

Leonor wore her glossy brunette tresses down in a sophisticated straightened blow-dry and chose to wear full-glam makeup.

According to the official Spanish Royal Family website, the visit will have a particular focus on environmental protection and ocean conservation.

However, Leonor won't be totally alone, as Spanish and Portuguese foreign ministers will accompany the Princess in various meetings along the way.

The website stated: 'The choice of Portugal as the destination for the first official trip abroad by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias reflects and reinforces the bonds of fraternity and closeness that unite both countries.'

This comes as the next step in the plan for to prepare the teenage Princess for becoming Spain's monarch.

In May, Leonor was elected 'Adopted Daughter' of Zaragoza', a role that her father King Felipe was honoured with 38 years prior.

She received the Medal of Aragon and the Medal of the Cortes during a ceremony at Aljaferia Palace.

The new title has been given to Leonor by the city council to 'acknowledge the city’s affection for the Princess of Asturias, to appreciate her significance for both the Aragonese capital and Spain, and to express gratitude for her connection to the city'.

The honour is given to individuals who have made significant social, political, economic, cultural or scientific contributions to the city.

Princess Leonor has also followed in her father and grandfather's footsteps and is currently completing her military training at Zaragoza Military Academy in Northern Spain.

She started three years of intense military training in August last year, as when she ascends the throne, she will hold the title of Commander in Chief of the armed forces.
