Today show host suddenly separates from financier husband just two years after glam NYC wedding

After being together for only two years, Jill Martin has decided to go separate ways from her husband Erik Brooks.

The TODAY contributor, 46, met financier Erik Brooks in 2017 on a dating app. The duo hit it off, and got engaged in 2019, but that was only the start of their tumultuous relationship.

Only a year later, the couple split, and due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Erik was living in Boston with his children, while Jill stayed in New York.

However, it appears absence made their hearts grow fonder, and after living separate lives for 18 months, they reunited and Jill was sporting her engagement ring once again in 2021.

In April 2022, Jill publicly took accountability for some of the relationship's turmoil, as she shared that she wasn't picking her battles at the time. She found herself unwilling to compromise, and to regulate her reactions towards Erik.

Despite the obstacles they faced, in September 2022, the love birds had a luxurious wedding that was held at the jaw-dropping New York Public Library, for their 200 friends and family members.

During their big day, her father Marty and her mother Georgette walked Jill down the aisle, and her dad even officiated the duo.

Jill sentimentally wore a blue garter from her mother's wedding, as well as Georgette's wedding ring.

Instead of going with a traditional wedding cake, the bride's dessert-of-choice were many Carvel Fudgie the Whale ice cream cakes.

The pair also kindly requested for their guests to donate to an 18-year-old student Samantha's college tuition, who Jill discovered while working on the advisory board of the Garden of Dreams Foundation.

Fast forward to 2024, and Jill's spokesperson has shared that the pair filed for the divorce at the start of August and the process is nearly settled.

The representative did transparently add that Jill has experienced an 'earth-shattering' past year.

On June 11, Jill shared a reel on Instagram that showcased their trip to Lake Como, in which the the two are shown lovingly posing and laughing together.

It was Jill's candid caption which may have given followers a glimpse into their cracking foundation, in which she shared that she was emotionally struggling and used her time away as a form of escapism.

She transparently wrote: 'My wise friend told me that you can take a break from sadness, worrying, and anything wrong whenever you want. You can take a few days and just enjoy and be free. And that is exactly what I did.'

Jill may have been dealing with their marriage issues privately, but she publicly let her followers into her heart-breaking journey of being diagnosed with breast cancer, only three months prior to the two celebrating their first wedding anniversary.

The TODAY host publicly shared her gratefulness for her massive support system, as she gave a shoutout to her husband, and family and friends, only a month after she discovered her life-changing diagnosis.

She has since undergone a double-mastectomy and chemotherapy.

Jill is now cancer-free, however, she will continue taking her medication for the next seven to 10 years.

Her spokesperson added that she 'is concentrating on her health and being an amazing daughter, friend and new aunt.'
