French expat, 29, is left shocked by 'brutal' act on her very first date in Australia: 'What's the point?'

A French expat was devastated and 'extremely disheartened' after being stood up by an Aussie man on a first date.

Chloe Vick was excited to start dating again and had been talking to a new guy on Bumble for two weeks before a date was arranged for March 23.

But the 29-year-old was left waiting alone at a bar for 45 minutes before she realised her date unmatched her - despite saying he was coming.

Speaking to FEMAIL, Chloe said she's been living in Brisbane for two years and was shocked by the dating scene Down Under compared to back home.

She's been single for six years and decided to get back into the dating game following her father's death a few months ago.

'The fact that I had gathered up my courage and hope... and then this happened felt like a slap in the face,' Chloe said.

This type of behaviour is something Chloe isn't used to as it 'never happens' in France.

While she doesn't wish to generalise, she has found that in her experience with dating Australian men, ghosting is 'the norm'.

'They will often go from hot to cold and bail with no explanation whatsoever, making you feel like you did or said something wrong, you wasted your time or they found what they believed was a better option,' she said.

'Either way, it's very brutal when the communication just simply stops.'

Chloe added that being stood up has dampened her confidence in dating.

'If the person you're hoping to date isn't the least bit curious about getting to know you or making plans and not bailing then what is the point?' she said.

'I also feel like it's turned me into a harder person as I'm then expecting the worst with every person I try to date.'

After arriving back home from the date, she decided to vent her frustrations by recording a video which was later posted on TikTok.

'So I just got stood up and I genuinely need to know if this is just an Australian thing that I'm missing,' she said in the clip.

'I'm from France and I've never been stood up or ghosted, this isn't really what guys do there.

'But here for some reason it's really normalised to not show up to dates and treat people badly. I need to know, am I missing something? It's wild to me. Who is raising these men?'

The video has since been viewed more than 29,000 times and other women agreed Aussie dating culture is 'atrocious'.

'Welcome to Australia. Ghost city culture girl,' one woman wrote.

'Unfortunately the low effort lifestyle has also translated to the dating scene as well in Australia,' another said.

Someone else said: 'Yes it's normal. I'm the hottest I've ever been and have tapped out of dating.'
