The best friend of Aussie breakdancer Rachael 'Raygun' Gunn has spoken out to defend the now-famous Olympian and hit back at suggestions she's at the centre of a sporting conspiracy.

The 36-year-old Olympian shocked the world with her notorious performance at the Olympic Games in Paris, with onlookers stunned by her unconventional moves.

Sunny Spiteri, who was Rachael's maid of honour at her wedding in 2018, praised her performance and claimed she's 'the best person she's ever met', slamming critics who 'don't understand' the creativity behind breakdancing.

'She's my best friend!' Sunny hit back at a critic.

'She is kind and intelligent and one of the funniest people I know. All these people not understanding her moves have never been to a battle in real life - this is what breaking is!

'It's creative expression and she is well respected in the community for her musicality and creativity! All this to say I love her and I am SO PROUD.'

Sunny went on to describe her friend as 'a legend' and said she will be showing her support by wearing Raygun shirts 'until she's 90'.

But one brutal critic said if Sunny was a true friend, she should've told Rachael she 'wasn't very good' before embarrassing herself in front of the world.

But Sunny swiftly hit back by explaining her beloved friend has 'consistently beaten other breakers not just in Australia but the whole oceanic region'.

However she admitted Rachael has lost battles on occasion too and slammed suggestions there was any 'deception' regarding her selection to compete in Paris.

'The judges often don't know her and they mark on a specific criteria. None of her wins have been contested. Just because you don't get it or like it doesn't mean it was some sort of master scheme of deception,' she wrote.

The blonde beauty added that Rachael and husband Samuel Free comforted her during a horrific personal incident.

'Her and her husband dropped everything and drove over an hour to come be with me,' she said.

Samuel is now also the talk of the internet over footage of his own questionable moves.

And despite the hate, Rachael has a fan in dual gold medallist Keegan Palmer.

The Gold Coast skateboarder - who won gold in Paris to back up his triumph at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, praised the university professor for enjoying herself on the ultimate stage.

'I saw those videos, that was pretty funny,' Palmer said.

'(It was) pretty interesting, who cares really. She's out there having fun, that's all that really matters.'

Rachael failed to score a point in any of her three bouts - and her bizarre routine became an instant talking point. But Paris was Australia's most successful Olympics with athletes winning 18 gold medals.

It follows news that Rachael will not return home with her fellow Olympic athletes, and will instead enjoy a holiday in Europe.

Australia's Olympians landed in Sydney on Wednesday morning after the conclusion of the Games but Raygun was not on board the plane.

She will instead remain in Europe, potentially to spend some downtime with her husband Samuel Free and her parents, 2GB reported.

The athletes were reunited with family and friends on Wednesday morning inside a Qantas hangar at Sydney Airport.
