New parents roasted over birth announcement as several say baby daughter's name is going to get her bullied

New parents have been roasted over the name they decided to give to their newborn daughter.

The baby girl's unique name was put on display on a large billboard outside Intermountain Health's Bloomin' Babies Birth Center.

'Welcome to the world Annaly, 7lbs 10oz,' the sign said.

Annaly is Irish and a variation of the female name Annaleigh, which means 'light' or 'grace,' according to Nice Baby Name.

'It is a perfect choice for parents looking for a unique and timeless name for their daughter,' the website said.

The image of the giant birth announcement, posted to Reddit, quickly made waves online, as commenters weighed in on the odd name choice.

A person said: 'That poor kid's gonna get so mercilessly bullied...'

One quipped: 'Not the traditional way to give birth, but I guess to each their own!'

'Dear god that poor child,' another person wrote.

'Doomed forever to be Anally,' wrote another.

Someone else said the poor name choice 'is a hate crime.'

Others suggested similar names that weren't spelled so raunchily.

'Why not “Anna Lee”,' a commenter said.

Liam and Olivia remained the top boy's and girl's names in 2023, marking the seventh and sixth year each has held the top spot, according to new government data.

The top names were compiled using annual data from all babies registered with the Social Security Administration (SSA) at birth - the agency started compiling names in 1997.

For girl's, the names Emma and Charlotte came in second and third while Noah and Oliver were the number two and three top-picked boy's names.

Amelia came in the fourth spot for girl's names for the third year in a row while Sophia returned in fifth place for the second year.

Only one new name appeared in the top 10 list for 2023, with Mateo joining the top boy's list for the first time, coming in at number six.

Although some names have withstood the test of time, the SSA reported that social media stars have influenced new parents' name choices more than ever.

Kaeli was the fastest-rising girl's name last year, jumping 1,692 spots after the YouTube and TikTok influencer Kaeli McEwen, known as Kaeli Mae, who has one million followers and promotes a clean and tidy lifestyle on her account.

The SSA reported that TikTok creator Wyatt Eiden's three million followers may have contributed to the name Eiden becoming the third fastest rising boy's name in 2023.

Liam has been overwhelmingly popular as a boy's name since it took over the top spot in 2017, replacing Noah - the number-one choice since 2013.

Olivia has remained the most popular girl's name in the US since 2018 which first increased in popularity following the release of the 2012 TV show 'Scandal,' after the lead character Olivia Pope.
