Incandescent former MSNBC star calls on CNN to fire one of its top analysts, Van Jones, for praising Trump campaign while criticizing Biden

Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann called on CNN to fire Van Jones, one of their chief political correspondents, for praising Trump's strength and criticizing Biden's weakness.

On Wednesday night, Van Jones appeared on a panel with the network's other political commentators to discuss the Republican National Convention and the election.

'Today is terrible day,' the one-time Obama adviser said. 'If you pull back and look at this thing: strength versus weakness. A bullet couldn't stop Trump. A virus just stopped Biden.'

Jones's remarks referred to the attempted assassination of Trump on Saturday at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a shooter opened fire on the former president.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Trump announced that despite his injury- a bullet pierced his ear- the RNC would proceed as scheduled.

On Sunday - only a day after the incident- the former president landed in Milwaukee, ready for the event.

President Biden, however, tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, forcing him to scrap a Las Vegas campaign event.

Jones, who served as Obama's Special Advisor for Green Jobs, juxtaposed Trump's strength with Biden's weakness.

This prompted Keith Olbermann, a former MSNBC host, to call on CNN to fire Jones for complimenting Trump.

'HEY CNN,' Olbermann wrote on X.com in all caps. 'Fire this a**hole/moron/Trumpsucker @VanJones68 TONIGHT. Your remaining 837 viewers will accept no less.'

This does not mark the first time the former MSNBC host focused his frustration on CNN.

Last month, after the debate, he recommended that the network should be 'burn[ed] down.'

'Literally, I am suggesting that at some point tonight CNN should- it will not- go off the air in shame, fire everybody, seal off buildings, make sure everybody's out, and burn the Godd*** place to the ground,' he stated.

Olberman added that Jake Tapper and Dana Bash should face consequences for their role as the debate's moderators, saying they should be 'fired for journalistic malpractice.'

In one post, Olbermann wrote: 'WHY IS TRUMP LYING ABOUT THE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT?'

He continued: 'Five days later there is no confirmation, not even an anonymous statement, from law enforcement or a medical authority that he was hit by a bullet.'

Then he added: 'Why lie?'

After contrasting Trump's strength with Biden's weakness, Van Jones addressed the disunity in the Democratic party.

Following Biden's disastrous performance at the presidential debate, there have been mounting calls within the Democratic party for the president to stand aside.

Recently, even prominent members of the party like California Congressman Adam Schiff have urged the president to withdraw from the race.

However, steadfast Biden supporters have urged him to remain in the race and the president himself has announced his intention to continue his campaign.

'You got the nominees of this party getting their butts kissed,' Jones said of the Republican party.

'Biden's getting his butt kicked by his own party,' he continued.

'The Democrats are coming apart. The Republicans are coming together. That's what's happening.'
