Moment Philadelphia baby is shot by cursing gunwoman - before seven month-old infant's parents make shockingly cruel decision

A seven-month-old baby was shot and left to fend for himself while bleeding after a gunwoman opened fire on his parents and they fled.

The boy was being pushed in a pram by his parents on Meridian Street in Holmesburg, Philadelphia, at 5.51pm on Thursday.

CCTV footage showed a woman suddenly approach them, fire at the couple, then walk away after one of the bullets hit the baby in the leg.

The boy's father immediately sprinted away as the shooter fired twice in his direction, while the mother stayed with the baby in the pram.

The gunwoman walked past the mother and child, then casually turned back and fired past the mother from point-blank range.

The mother let out a bloodcurdling scream, wailing 'my baby', to which the shooter callously responded 'F**k your baby, b***h' and walked away.

Police said when they arrived at the scene neither of the parents were there and the baby was rushed to hospital by a neighbor.

Neither of the parents were injured, and are believed to have left because they had warrants out for their arrests and were not found until an hour later.

The father was later detained by police and both parents are being questioned. They do not live in Holmesburg and it was unclear why they were there.

Police are hunting the gunwoman, who was caught on camera but is not yet identified. Investigators don't yet know the motive for the shooting.

Police found two spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon

The neighbor who came to the baby's aid described how the mother handed him the child and he drove him in his car to Nazareth Hospital.

'When I find out the baby was seven months and both parents said they have warrants. They got out the car and I took the baby,' he told NBC,

'I just felt like I had to protect this child. It was overwhelming. It was scary. This person came up and didn't care with no remorse and just fired and walked away like nothing happened.'

Police later transferred the baby to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said police found two spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon.

'You can see what appears to be a male, possibly a female, long hair, possibly dreadlocks, wearing a dark t-shirt and light blue jeans and fire a shot in the direction of the mother and father,' he said of the shooting footage.
