REVEALED: Hunter Biden's new lawyer's links to the Clintons and a woman who got a last-minute presidential pardon

  • Karine Jean-Pierre dodged new pardon inquiry, saying 'that's a hypothetical
  • Hunter brought in a new lawyer as on eve of his tax trial

The LA lawyer obtained by Hunter Biden on the eve of his trial on tax charges previously represented Roger Clinton and Susan McDougal – two key figures who got controversial pardons from President Bill Clinton.

The move is prompting new questions about whether the president's son is angling for a pardon – and whether Kamala Harris would ever give him one even after Joe Biden leaves office.

Hunter Biden has retained prominent LA lawyer Mark Geragos in advance of his trial on tax charges, which follows his conviction on a gun charge in federal court in Delaware.

During the 1990s, he represented Roger Clinton, who got a pardon from his brother for a drug conviction in 1985, having already served more than a year in prison. (He was charged with drunken driving in California within a month after getting the pardon that cleaned his record).

Geragos also represented former Clinton business partner Susan McDougal. Both got pardoned by the president during his last hours in office.

She went to prison and refused to testify in the Whitewater investigation that ultimately kicked off the Ken Starr probe and the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

'She's absolutely delighted,' Geragos told the New York Times in a story dated January 20, 2001. 'She is speechless for once in her life. And I think it is especially poignant that it was one of the last acts of Bill Clinton's administration.'

At the White House on Wednesday, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre got asked if President Biden would tell Kamala Harris not to pardon Hunter if she were to take office.

'I mean, that's a hypothetical,' she responded. 'I can speak for the president, and he said he would not pardon his son. And I'm just going to leave it there,' she said.

His hiring comes amid reports that the president's son could potentially arrange a plea deal to avoid a trial just weeks before the November elections.

Sources told CNN the two sides had not exchanged any concrete proposals. Finances could also be an issue, with 'sugar bro' Kevin Morris, who has helped bankroll Hunter's legal costs, reportedly running low on funds.

The New York Times, after a years-long document fight, reported that Hunter sought help from the U.S. government to secure a profitable energy deal while his father was vice president.

The documents came to light only after Biden ended his campaign for the White House, despite a FOIA request dating to 2001.

The New York Times reports reported the influence efforts, while Hunter was serving on the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma. He penned at least one letter to the U.S. ambassador to Italy, John R. Phillips. Lawyer Abbe Lowell dismissed the matter, saying nothing came of it.
