EXCLUSIVEIs this the ugliest newbuild in Britain? Six-bedroom detached home on sea of Tarmac on sale for £850k in the heart of Yorkshire countryside slammed as 'monstrous'

A 'monstrous' new-build estate covered in Tarmac where houses sell for as much as £850,000 has been mercilessly mocked online.

One six-bed detached house, near the historic village of Tong, West Yorkshire, has been panned as a poor example of modern design.

The lavish pad - which replaced farm buildings in the open countryside - is being marketed as a 'one of kind development'.

But internet wags have poured scorn on the uninspiring design, which features a series of narrow box windows and heavily Tarmaced grounds.

One Twitter user branded the home a 's*** brickhouse', while another joked: 'One of a kind development. Is that a promise?'

The 'exclusive' home is one of five properties developed on greenbelt land north of Tong, a charming village mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086.

But prospective buyers appear hard to come by - with the property's price slashed from £999,999 this month.

The house was described as an 'absolute monstrosity' by one person on social media.

Someone else posted: 'It has the air of the staff building at a council maintenance depot or maybe a wastewater treatment plant.'

While another asked 'How have they managed to produce something so bad with relatively pleasant materials?'

The 3000 sq ft property, which features five bathrooms and a space for a vast home gym, was approved by council planners without objection.

They deemed the new houses to have an 'acceptable' impact on the green belt and the development proceeded despite being in a 'high risk area for past coal mining'.

Marketing blurb says of the five-bed house: 'Virtue exclusively offers to market this stunning 5 bedroom new build family home located near Tong offering luxury living in the breathtaking Yorkshire countryside.'

But one joker pointed out that the home appeared to have no front step leading from its entrance in publicity shots. They wrote: '£875,000. Front step £125,000 extra.'

Another commented: 'When your ideal home is the offices of a small specialist transport and logistics company.'

Other newbuild homes on the development include four-beds priced at £697,500 and £575,000, and a three-bed marketed at a reduced £495,000.

The average price for a detached home in nearby Tong village over the past 12 months was £217,062, according to Rightmove.

The village, near Bradford, is famed for historic buildings including Grade-II listed Tong Hall and the 18th-century St James's Church.
