Creep admits to poisoning wife's coke in twisted plot to kill her and marry her daughter

An Indiana man confessed to lacing his wife's cans of Coca-Cola with drugs like cocaine and MDMA as part of a scheme to murder her and marry her daughter.

On Monday, Alfred Ruf, 71, was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated battery posing a risk of death.

The charges against the 71-year-old stemmed from a series of incidents in 2021, when he reportedly spiked his wife's soft drinks a dozen times.

By January 2022, Ruf was under investigation after his wife, Liza Bishop, 51, notified authorities that she thought her husband was trying to poison her.

Before she contacted the police, Bishop was hospitalized six times over the course of a few weeks.

She had been suffering from unexplained headaches, drowsiness, diarrhea, and other bizarre symptoms.

During each stay at the hospital, she tested positive for substance like cocaine, MDMA, and benzodiazepines, none of which she took.

At some point, Bishop also discovered a powdery residue in her cans of Coca-Cola.

Ruf later admitted to his wife that he was indeed trying to poison her because he 'felt bad' about it. Afterwards, she contacted law enforcement.

When authorities responded to the couple's home, they reportedly heard Ruf mention that he had been 'spiking' his wife's drink with an 'unknown substance' he had received from her 31-year-old daughter.

The 71-year-old was taken to the Wayne County Sheriff's department, where he apparently confessed to the poisonings during an interview. He also reportedly admitted to having a sexual relationship with Bishop's daughter from a previous marriage.

Ruf allegedly explained to the authorities how the 31-year-old woman had provided him with the drugs, instructing him to put them in her mother's drinks.

According to court documents, 'Ruf stated that the substance would then make [his wife] go to sleep for approximately 13 hours or so.'

During this window, Bishop's daughter and her friend would arrive at the house, where they would 'put on a show' for him, Ruf reportedly said.

According to an affidavit acquired by USA Today, the 'show' amounted to the two women putting on Bishop's clothes and performing 'sex acts on each other.'

Ruff allegedly claimed that the daughter engineered the plot, suggesting that they should 'get mom out of the picture' and benefit from her life insurance policy.

The 71-year-old also reportedly told the police that the daughter wished to marry him after they 'took care' of Bishop.

From September 2021 through December 2021, Ruff poisoned his wife's drink 12 times, he reportedly told authorities.

'Ruf stated that he knew the substance would eventually kill his wife,' the police wrote. 'It was their ultimate goal.'

When the police arrested the husband in January 2022, they reported that they were investigating two other suspects in connection with the case. At this time, no other arrests have been made.

Ruf will serve four years behind bars, followed by five years of probation.
