Florida dog missing for two years is found 900 miles away in Oklahoma

A family dog that went missing two years ago was finally found - hundreds of miles away from her home.

The brownish-gray Pitbull, Andora, originally went missing from Pensacola, Florida. The biggest mystery of all is how she ended up in Enid, Oklahoma - 900 miles away from the sunshine state.

Brenna Denmark, Andora’s owner in Florida, rented a car with her family, maxed out their credit cards and drove through the night - nearly 14 hours straight - upon hearing the news that their family dog had been found safe and sound.

They arrived in Enid after 1:00 in the morning. The reunion was not only exciting for the Denmarks, but for Andora as well. She was just as happy to see her family after her two-year nomadic vacation and immediately started begging for belly rubs.

But Andora may never have been reunited with her family if it wasn’t for her microchip.

Andora was found by Enid resident, Destiny Druse, while running down a street. A friend of Druse scanned the lost dog for a microchip where they then learned her name and began the process of finding her owners

Enid resident and pet groomer, Destiny Druse, made several posts to Facebook after finding Andora by her house - all in an attempt to find the owners.

After running into dead-ends, the animal lover called a friend over to her house. Autumn Anderson, who is also a groomer, came over with a chip reader.

They scanned the lost dog and immediately the name Andora came up.

‘At that point, we were like, Andora, and her ears perked up like she hadn’t heard her name in forever,’ Druse told KFOR.

They knew they had her name, but no owner information was listed in the scan. Their next step was to file a found-pet report, hoping the owners would see the message.

And just ten minutes later, Andora’s Florida owner called.

Brenna asked where her dog was located, but had never even heard of Enid. It was a shock when she realized Enid was in Oklahoma - states away from their home in Florida.

The Denmarks never expected their beloved dog to be found across state lines - let alone safe in a state 900 miles away from their home in Pensacola.

How Andora ended up in Oklahoma is still a mystery, but the family believes that she may have been stolen.

‘We don’t live in the best neighborhood,’ Brenna told KFOR. ‘There’s a lot of people that like to fight Pitbulls, so that’s kind of where we thought she ended up.’

After two years, Andora finally made her way back home to the sunshine state with her family.

Brenna added: ‘She runs all over the place. As soon as she ran in the door, she found where we keep all the dog toys and she picked her dog toy and she’s had that ever since and she slept between my bed and my daughter’s last night.’

Druse is no stranger to rescuing lost dogs. She has made several posts in a Facebook group called ‘Enid Area chit chat’ where she attempts to find the owners of dogs who went missing in the Oklahoma area.

She added: ‘They wanted their baby home, that’s all that mattered and I think that’s just amazing. I’ve never seen somebody love their dog so much.’

Both Anderson and Druse have shared the heart-warming story on social media, hoping to bring the community together to help the Denmarks.

The Denmarks said that they have ‘already been shown the Oklahoma spirit’ after roughly $400 was donated to help them cover travel expenses and future vet bills for Andora.

‘It’s really just amazing to see that people do anything because over here they really don’t do that,’ Brenna added.

But the reunion was only possible because Andora was microchipped.

Microchipped pets are three times more likely to return home to their families than those without. On average, 57 per cent of chipped dogs go home, according to Human Animal Support Services.

‘Without that, she never would have made it home,’ Anderson added.

Now, Andora can enjoy all of the love and cuddles her family has to offer in her Florida home - safe and happy.
