Angela Simmons was reportedly in a custody battle with her ex-fiance before he was gunned down in Atlanta over the weekend. 

Sutton Tennyson, 37, was fatally shot in his parking garage on Saturday. 

Following his death, the Growing Up Hip Hop star took to social media to post a heartbreaking tribute to Tennyson, the father of her child, on Sunday.

But according to PageSix, Simmons and Tennyson appeared in Manhattan Family Court on October 30, four days before Tennyson was killed.

'It wasn't lovey dovey, there's a reason people go to court,' a source told PageSix. 

Tennyson was reportedly paying about $1,250 per month in child support, but Simmons wanted more money.

Simmons, who is the daughter of Rev Run, received temporary custody of two-year-old Sutton Jr in July.

She was granted the custody after she filed an order of protection against Tennyson last year, according to PageSix. 

The couple split in December 2017, around the same time Simmons made domestic violence claims against him. 

According to the source, Tennyson wanted joint custody of their son.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Simmons expressed gratitude to her ex for the child they share together. 

'Thank you for leaving behind my greatest gift,' Simmons wrote.

'I'm hurting. I'm numb,' she added.

Simmons also wrote in the caption that she was grateful to fans 'for the out pouring of love'.

The shoe designer included a collection of photos of happier times with her ex and their family in her Instagram post.

'I cant believe I'm even saying Rest In Peace Sutton,' Angela wrote. 'I promise to hold SJ down in every way I promise.' 

She also shared a video on Monday of Tennyson swimming in the pool with their child. 

'Reflecting. He [Sutton Jr] keeps replaying it [sic] RIP Sutton.

Tennyson was shot multiple times at around 4.30pm on Saturday, according to local reports.

'Atlanta Police say the shooting happened as a result of an argument between at least two people,' reports CBS Atlanta.  

However, TMZ reports that the fatality appeared to be 'the result of a home invasion robbery'.

Simmons and Tennyson welcomed their son together in 2016 but called off their engagement the following year.

Tennyson's death is being investigated as a homicide. 

No arrests have been made.
