Two-thirds of parents would rather their children have a basic 'dumbphone' without access to apps than a smartphone, new data has revealed. Vodafone surveyed thousands of parents with children between the ages of 8-14 and found that 67 per cent of them preferred a mobile that could make and receive calls and texts, but prevented kids from surfing the web and accessing social media. Their concerns come from recent studies which have found links between phone use and poor mental health among children - including anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. This follows a BBC Panorama last night on the issue saw one teenager claim social media companies' algorithms are feeding youngsters with harmful and violent misogynistic content....read
