Record-breaking Madrid win in Warsaw!

I'm sorry guys, but I have to head off...

It was a wonderful night bringing European club football's curtain raiser to all of you.

The outcome is what we all expected, Real Madrid got the job done once again to start their season off with a record-breaking sixth Super Cup.

Kylian Mbappe marked his much-awaited debut for Los Blancos with a goal after Federico Valverde gave Madrid the lead.

Atalanta had their moments, but overall they could not deal with the brilliance of Carlo Ancelotti's side.

After that, you feel it could be another year of dominance for Madrid.

Right then, I'm going to dash now. Thank you once again for following along with us at Mail Sport, we have plenty of action still to come this week, starting with the Premier League on Friday.

I'll see you all there for it!

Brilliant Bellingham

Before I go, I just want to mention this fella.

Whenever Jude Bellingham pulls on a Real Madrid shirt he exuberates excellence.

His first-half performance was nothing to shout about, but the same cannot be said about after the break.

The midfielder turned on the style and caused Atalanta heaps of problems in the second half.

He drove at the defence, kept the pace of attacks going, and even had a few good cracks at goal.

Also, his assist for Kylian Mbappe's first Real Madrid goal was simple but effective.

A shining display from Bellingham.

The crowning moment

Alexa, play 'We Are the Champions' by Queen...

Luka Modric ambles up to the trophy as he gets set to lift his first as club captain.

And there it is, Modric lifts the Super Cup aloft before confetti comes raining down on the Real Madrid squad.

Let the party begin!

Well, I'm sure it won't last very long the league season is about to start.

21:08

Madrid give Atalanta guard of honour

Well, that's nice from the Real Madrid players.

They give the Atalanta team a guard of honour as the Italian side collect their silver medals.

I know it's a common gesture, but it's always nice to see that respect.

Atalanta don't exactly look buzzing as the medals go around their necks, but that is to be expected.

21:03

Madrid make history

They've only gone and done it again...

With that victory, Real Madrid are now out on their own with six Super Cups compared to Barcelona and AC Milan's five.

I would say it's an incredible achievement, which it is, but it's what you expect from them at this point.

They just almost always get the job done in Europe.

20:59

Not to be for Atalanta

It was just not Atalanta's night, was it?

There will be no second European trophy for the Italian side, they were well beaten.

They showed glimmers in the first half and were perhaps the better side in the opinion of many.

But in the second... my word, they were torn apart.

As soon as Real Madrid turned the screw they simply had no answer - they couldn't deal with the pace and directness.

The players don't look upset, though, they are currently thanking the fans with a big Iceland-style clap.

Gian Piero Gasperini looks kind of happy too.

20:57

WATCH: Mbappe opens Madrid account

If you haven't seen Kylian Mbappe's goal, here is your chance.

I must admit, I thought Jude Bellingham had overcooked the pass to the French.

How wrong was I?

The ball was the perfect weight for Mabppe to run onto and smash into the top corner.

One of the better debut goals that I have seen.

20:55

Mbappe the man of the moment

Where else was I going to start?

Every time the camera pans over to Kylian Mbappe you can just see a huge grin on his face.

He was not at his best today by any stretch, but he is now up and running in a Real Madrid shirt in more ways than one.

A first goal and a first trophy in the white of Los Blancos.

Not bad, eh?

20:50

FULL-TIME: Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

Real Madrid win the Super Cup for a record sixth time!

There is a huge smile on Carlo Ancelotti's face as he goes to shake hands with Gian Piero Gasperini.

Kylian Mbappe will take all the headlines as he scored a fine goal on his debut for Los Blancos.

His goal sealed the deal after Federico Valverde opened the scoring in a blistering second-half performance.

Atalanta just couldn't deal with Madrid today.

20:49

TWO added minutes

Just like the first half.

Real Madrid are just two minutes from more European glory.

They will be counting them down quickly.

20:48, 89'

SUBSTITUTIONS: Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

The changes keep coming now.

Carlo Ancelotti makes a triple change with Arda Guler, Dani Ceballos, and Lucas Vazquez all coming on.

Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham, and Dani Carvajal make way for them.

Meanwhile, Marco Palestra and Alberto Manzoni enter the action for Atalanta.

20:46, 87'

Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

Ben Godfrey must have a nosebleed?

He keeps foraging up[ the pitch and this time he sees the ball clipped into his direction in the box.

He sees his name in lights and shapes up for a volley before shanking it well wide.

When I say wide, I mean wide.

20:42, 83'

SUBSTITUTION: Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

Kylian Mbappe's night comes to an end.

The national Stadium rises to applaud him as he walks off the pitch with a smile on his face after his first appearance for Real Madrid.

Brahim Diaz comes on in his place.

20:41, 82'

SO CLOSE! Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

Wow...

Somehow Real Madrid are not three goals to the good, and I honestly don't know how.

Vinicius Jr does brilliantly again on the right and clips in a cross from the byline which takes a deflection.

The ball dips over Juan Musso and looks like it will bounce across the line, but it backspins away from goal.

Physics... incredible.

20:39, 81'

Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

This match is just a precession now.

Real Madrid are just playing keep ball and Atalanta are struggling to get anywhere near them.

With less than ten minutes to go, this is surely finito.

20:36, 77'

SUBSTITUTION: Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

There is rapturous applause as Luka Modric comes onto the pitch.

The Real Madrid legend takes the armband as he replaces Rodrygo.

I'm guessing that means a change in formation?

20:34, 76'

CLOSE! Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

So close from Ben Godfrey.

Atalanta's summer signing prods toward goal after the ball drops to him and it looks like it's heading in.

However, Eder Militao is there to deny him.

20:32, 74'

Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

Real Madrid are having the time of their lives out there.

Jude Bellingham is now strutting his stuff and beats a load of men but decides not to shoot.

The ball is shifted to Rodrygo who has a crack, but Juan Musso is equal to it.

This could be any number, I'm telling you.

20:29, 70'

SUBSTITUTIONS: Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta

Gian Gasperini responds with another substitution.

He calls upon Mitchel Bakker to replace Sead Kolasinac in defence.

The way things are going, though, it won't make a difference.

20:26, 68'

Goal:Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta (Mbappe 68')

KYLIAN MBAPPE IS OFF THE MARK FOR REAL MADRID!

The moment Mbappe has been dreaming of has arrived as he doubles Real Madrid's lead.

He runs onto a cutback from Jude Bellingham to fire into the top corner with aplomb.

He races away with a beaming smile on his face to celebrate, what a moment for the Frenchman.

The first of many I presume.

20:24, 66'

GREAT SAVE! Real Madrid 1-0 Atalanta

Guess what? Juan Musso has made yet another save.

The Atalanta goalkeeper is on smoke at the moment and he denies Jude Bellingham yet again.

The Real Madrid midfielder tries to sneak the ball under him from a tight angle, but the keeper is having none of it.

Another fantastic stop.

20:23, 63'

SUBSTITUTIONS: Real Madrid 1-0 Atalanta

Now it's time for some changes.

Any Everton fans amongst you will know that Ben Godfrey made the switch to Italy earlier this summer, and now he comes on for Atalanta.

The defender replaces Davide Zappacosta, while Charles de Ketelaere also makes way, with Retegui replacing him.

20:21, 62'

BIG SAVE! Real Madrid 1-0 Atalanta

Juan Musso, take a bow!

Atalanta are suddenly falling apart and it's Musso who is keeping them alive.

This time he makes a fabulous stop to deny Jude Bellingham from the resulting corner.

Atalanta then desperately get it clear...

20:20, 61'

HUGE CHANCE! Real Madrid 1-0 Atalanta

Oh my word, I thought that was two!

Vinicus Jr races away and only has eyes for goal, surely he is going to add a quickfire second?

No! Juan Musso denies him one-on-one, what a brilliant save that is.

I started typing goal...

20:17, 59'

Goal:Real Madrid 1-0 Atalanta (Valverde 59')

The European champions break the deadlock!

It's Federico Valverde who opens the scoring and he will never score an easier goal in a Real Madrid shirt.

Vinicius Jr rips Atalanta apart in the left inside the area before squaring it for the Uruguayan to tap into an empty net.

Simply filthy from the Brazilian.

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Now Jude Bellingham decides he's going to go for goal.

The midfielder is set up by a nifty little backheel from the boot of Federico Valverde, and then he sees his name in lights.

But he is leaning back and bends his effort slightly over the bar.

Bellingham then calls on the Real Madrid fans to make more noise...

20:12, 54'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Jude Bellingham is just so elegant.

The England man drifts past three or four Atalanta men in the middle before setting Real Madrid on their way.

It just seems effortless for the 20-year-old.

20:07, 50'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

It seems the teams listened to me.

Both now seem much more lively and are gunning for that opener.

The chances are starting to flow already, let's hope they keep coming, eh?

20:07, 47'

WHAT A SAVE! Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

That is sensational, Thibaut Courtois!

Atalanta look destined to take the lead as Mario Pasalic gets on the end of a brilliant cross.

The Croatian midfielder gets his noggin on the ball and heads toward the top corner, and somehow Courtois gets across to turn the ball around.

Incredible goalkeeping.

20:05, 47'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Oh, Kylian...

Mbappe shows what he's about by racing down the left and straight at Davide Zappacosta.

He beats his man inside the box but then blasts way over the bar.

The ball heads closer to the second tier than the net.

20:03, 46'

SECOND HALF: Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Right then, we can sink our teeth back into the action now (see what I did there?).

Real Madrid get the ball rolling again and the Super Cup has just 45 minutes of normal time to go.

20:02

All bark no bite

Considering all the attacking talent on show, I think it's fair we expected more from them that half.

In total, there were only five shots in the first 45 minutes. Yes, you read that right.

Vincius Jr, Rodrygo, Kylian Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham have only managed to muster three between them.

Come on lads, we want to be entertained.

19:57

Lookman struggling

Ademola Lookman has not looked himself today, so far.

The Atalanta man is not getting the same joy that he got against Bayer Leverkusen almost three months ago.

He has been limited to just a blocked shot that drifted well wide and a run that was blocked off by Antonio Rudiger.

If the Italian side want to win this match, they have to get him in the game more in the second half.

19:53

Muted Mbappe

Thoughts on Kylian Mbappe, so far?

I think that he showed glimpses of what he has in his locker early on, but faded as the half went on.

It's clear he has chemistry with Vinicius Jr, but bar the shot he had blocked, the Frenchman hasn't caused too many problems for Atalanta.

We are yet to see that blistering pace, or his dribbling ability, at its full potential.

I'm sure he will take it up a notch after the interval, though.

19:48

HALF-TIME: Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

There goes the whistle for half-time.

In truth, it's not been a cracker like I expected, but it's had its moments.

Both Real Madrid and Atalanta have hit the bar with Rodrygo coming closest just before the break.

But other than a handful of chances, both sides have struggled to get efforts on goal.

Including Kylian Mbappe, who hasn't gotten going yet.

19:48, 46'

HIT THE BAR! Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Real Madrid almost prove me wrong instantly!

Rodrygo crashes an effort off the bar from just inside the area, and that's the closest Los Blancos have come.

The pass from Vinicius Jr into the feet of his compatriot is sensational, with the outside of his boot.

But the finish does not match it...

19:46

TWO minutes added

There will be two minutes of stopppage time.

Can either team score just before the break? I doubt it going by the last few minutes.

19:45, 44'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Ademola Lookman has not been involved in too much of the action, but he tries to break off the shackles.

The attacker decides to have a crack from distance and wins a corner for his troubles.

The resulting set-piece is dealt with comfortably, though.

19:43, 43'

YELLOW CARD: Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta (Vinicius Jr)

And now those luscious locks are on the grass...

Why? Because Marten de Roon has just been caught on the ankle by Vinicius Jr on the ankle.

It's a nasty challenge with the studs up, so the Brazilian is handed a yellow card.

He tries to argue his case, but I'm not sure why. A blatant booking.

19:41, 40'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Marten de Roon is looking a little different these days.

The camera has just cut to him shaking his head and all I can concentrate on are his luscious locks.

He obviously decided to grow them out over the summer and is even sporting a head band now.

19:37, 36'

YELLOW CARD: Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta (Bellingham)

Ooooooooooooo...

Jude Bellingham has just landed on goalkeeper Juan Musso as he tries to flick the ball over his head.

The Englishman is so close to getting a toe on it but instead wipes out the Atalanta man.

He gets booked for it, which is harsh. His eyes were on the ball.

19:36, 34'

GREAT TACKLE! Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Brilliant defending from Antonio Rudiger.

Ademola Lookman looks like he is through after a slack pass from Aurelien Tchouameni.

You just think Lookman will race away on his own, but Rudger flies across to take the ball away from him at the vital moment.

Incredible stuff from the German.

19:32, 31'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

It turns out that Edetrson;'s shot was Atalanta's first of the game.

For whatever reason it feels like they have had more...

There have only been two shots between both teams, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been entertaining.

Because it has.

19:29, 27'

OFF THE BAR! Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Eder Militao nearly has a howler!

The Brazilian nearly nets an own goal as heads onto his own bar from a Marten de Roon cross.

Then Ederson decides to have a pop from distance and it whistles narrowly wide of the mark.

Atalanta are turning the screw.

19:25, 24'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Atalanta really are ramping up the pressure.

Charles De Ketelaere has looked lively and he drives into the area from the right-hand side.

Just as he looks like he is going to pull the trigger, the ball is nicked away from him.

That's a decent chance gone at the last second.

19:22, 21'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Atalanta are starting to grow into this game.

Davide Zappacosta tries to cause problems on the right but his cross is cleared, he then gets the ball again but can't do any damage.

The Italian, who is wearing a weird net on his head after getting a cut on his head, is becoming Atalanta's main outlet.

19:18, 17'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Real Madrid are suddenly all over Atalanta.

Dani Carvajal curls a beautiful low cross into the six-yard box which is heading for Vincius Jr at the back stick.

But The Brazilian can't quite stretch enough to turn the ball home, he lunges too late.

WHAT A BLOCK! Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

What a block that is from Isak Hien.

It looks like Kylian Mbappe is set to open his real Madrid account as he gets on the end of Federico Valverde's low cross.

The number nine strikes the ball first time in the area and it's heading for goal, but Hien throws himself in front of the ball to block it.

I thought that was going in, I really did.

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

The Atalanta fans are having a belting time.

All the noise is being made by them at the moment, they are enjoying the occasion as much as they can.

I'm not sure they have stopped chanting yet.

19:11, 10'

YELLOW CARD: Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta (Ederson)

We have our first yellow card of the game and it has taken just over nine minutes.

The unlucky man on the receiving end of it is Atalanta's Ederson as he is penalised for a foul on Federico Valverde.

He will have to tread carefully now.

Soccer Football - Super Cup - Real Madrid v Atalanta - National Stadium, Warsaw, Poland - August 14, 2024 Atalanta's Ederson is shown a yellow card by referee Sandro Scharer REUTERS/Aleksandra Szmigiel

19:08, 7'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Ooooh, that's a delightful pass from Charles De Ketelaere.

The Belgian forward produces a perfectly weighted ball for Davide Zapopacosta to run onto, and he does.

But the referee then calls for a could on Ferland Mendy, but I'm not sure why.

There was nothing in it.

19:06, 5'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

I know its only been five minutes, but Real Madrid are looking very good already.

Vincius Jr and Kylian Mbappe are enjoying each other's company, they are linking up with regularity.

The fluidity of the front line is frightening.

19:04, 3'

Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

Kylian Mbappe has had his first touch as a Real Madrid player.

He plays a simple pass over to Rodrygo and then gets on his bike in typical Mbappe fashion.

He doesn't receive the ball back as the Brazilian is hacked down, but it's clear what his role in this side is already.

19:01, 1'

KICK-OFF: Real Madrid 0-0 Atalanta

The teams do their huddles, and now it's time to get cracking.

The music stops and Atalanta get the Super Cup underway in Warsaw.

Who will come out on top? we will find out in two hours.

18:58

Here come the teams!

The National Stadium roars as the teams arise from the tunnel.

Dani Carvajal leads Real Madrid out holding the Champions League trophy while Marten de Roon carries the Europa League.

Music is blaring, fans are making noise, and we are now nearly ready to go.

Are you ready? I know I am.

18:56

No extra-time

Just before the game gets underway, I have some good news.

Well, I think it's good news.

If this match ends in a draw we will go straight to penalties, there will be no extra time.

18:50

Predictions?

Right, I think it's time for a bit of pre-match fun.

Seeing as kick-off is nearly upon us, I think it's the perfect time to put some predictions in.

I'll go first, I'm thinking that Real Madrid are going to be too strong for a battling Atalanta. 3-1 to Los Blancos with Kylian Mbappe to score.

What do you all think the score will be?

18:45

Lots of love for Mbappe

Are they now called Real Mbappe?

Everywhere you look inside this stadium there is a sign or banner about Madrid's newest Galactico.

Everybody wants a bit of Kylian Mbappe, which shouldn't really be a surprise I guess.

I wonder if this girl gets her picture later? We may never find out.

Stadium bouncing

The buzz is brilliant. I love it.

25 minutes until kick-off

Surely you are all excited now?

Kick-off is rapidly closing in and both sets of teams are out on the pitch going through their final preparations.

I wonder how Kylian Mbappe is feeling right now...

I'm sure he will be itching for the game to start, but will also be a bag of nerves at the same time.

It's a huge moment in his career.

WATCH: Camavinga goes down

This is a tough watch.

If you don't like seeing people in a lot of pain, then this video is not one for you.

We have shown you that Eduardo Camavinga is now in a knee brace, well, here is why.

18:25

Camavinga in a brace

Oh dear, this doesn't look good.

Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga has been named on the bench tonight, but we know that he won't be featuring. I mean, just look.

Yesterday the Frenchman went down in a heap in training before being seen screaming in pain.

Well, it's obviously pretty serious as he has been snapped in a knee brace prior to tonight's match.

It's been revealed that he is set to miss the first few weeks of the season due to the injury.

A real blow for Los Blancos.

Vini loves a final

Vinicius Jr is another player that just adores finals.

The Brazilian attacker is the man for the big occasion, he turns up when he is needed most.

He has scored seven goals in his last 10 finals with Real Madrid while providing three assists.

Two of those goals have come in Champions League finals against both Borussia Dortmund this year, and Liverpool two years ago.

Don't be surprised if he conjures up some magic tonight.

Atalanta Team News - Lookman STARTS

For some reason, Atalanta have not posted their team news online.

When teams wait a ridiculous amount of time, it;'s annoying, right?

Well, no bother as we have the full line-up at our disposal, and Ademola Lookman does indeed start.

They've gone fairly strong...

Atalanta Starting XI: Musso; Djimistri, Hien, Kolosinac; Zappacosta, De Roon, Ederson, Ruggeri; Pasalic, Lookman, De Ketelaere

18:13

More European final heroics from Lookman?

Back in May, Ademola Lookman put on a show.

The former Everton man rocked up to Dublin for the Europa League final as a man on a mission.

It's fair to say, he completed it... and some.

Lookman scored a historical hat-trick to down a then-unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen side.

He became only the sixth person to net three goals in a major European final.

I remember being stunned at the level of some of his finishing. It was simply ridiculous that night.

Can he deliver on the big stage once again this evening?

Gasperini: 'We're more of an underdog than against Leverkusen'

Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta boss, speaking on Tuesday:

On paper, we're even more of an underdog than we were against Leverkusen, who were coming into the game unbeaten in an entire season.
Real Madrid will be an even greater hurdle but that means we're even more motivated. It doesn't happen often but you can overturn the odds in football.

Atalanta also arrive

And here are the challengers!

Atalanta have also now arrived as they look to shock the footballing world by claiming the Super Cup for the first time.

They look relaxed, so I guess that's a good sign for any supporters out there.

Los Blancos in the house

Is anybody getting excited yet? I sure am.

Kylian Mbappe and Co have arrived at the National Stadium in Warsaw ahead of the big night.

There isn't even a glimmer of a smile on the majority of their faces, they mean business.

I must admit, they are looking suave too.

One night in June...

It feels like a lifetime ago, doesn't it?

On June 1, Real Madrid lifted the Champions League trophy for a record-extending 15th time after beating Borussia Dortmund.

Late goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr got the job done for Los Blancos after they were on the back foot for the majority of the final.

Madrid are Madrid, eh? They just always get it done.

And that's why they are here tonight to contest their ninth Super Cup final in Warsaw, Poland.

I must admit, I still can't believe the Champions League final was only two months ago. That's crazy. So much has happened since then.

I feel like I have aged five to 10 years in that time.

What's at stake...

Wowzers.

The Super Cup trophy is being displayed in all its glory, and my word does it look shiny.

How much polish do you reckon they used to get it looking like that, it's gorgeous.

Which set of players will get to ruin it with their fingerprints later?

Atmosphere building

I told you it would be a cracking atmosphere.

The National Stadium is already filling up at a rapid pace with lots of noise coming from both ends.

The fans are certainly up for it, just look at the passion in these photos.

It's only going to get louder in Warsaw.

Ancelotti: 'We want to start season well'

Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid manager, speaking on Tuesday:

We haven't had much time to train but we are doing very well, and Kylian has also arrived in good shape. He is adapting very well. Obviously, everyone who is here can play on Wednesday.
As always, we're starting the season with all the excitement and desire. It's the first title of a season that is going to be very demanding but can also be very successful. We want to start it well. We are aware of the difficulties but I see the team in good shape, motivated to play a great game.

The stage is set

I have one word for this stadium. Stunning.

The National Stadium, in Warsaw, plays host to tonight's battle between Real Madrid and Atalanta, and ain't it a sight for sore eyes.

The ground can hold over 56,000 people, so it's rather large. With that many fans inside, it's sure to be one hell of an atmosphere.

So, the stage is now set and now we wait for the action to start.

Real Madrid Team News - Mbappe STARTS

Here is the confirmation then.

Carlo Ancelotti is handing Kylian Mbappe his first taste of action for Real Madrid from the very start.

The Frenchman will play down the middle with Brazilian duo Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo either side of him.

Jude Bellingham also takes his place in what is an extremely strong Los Blancos team.

I mean, their depth is simply mad.

17:37

Mbappe to make Madrid debut

The time has come...

After years of links, the transfer, and the unveiling, Kylian Mbappe will finally don the white of Real Madrid tonight.

This is the moment both he and Madrid fans have been patiently waiting for. Early team news has revealed that Mbappe will start tonight.

The question all summer has been around where he will fit in.

Well, Los Blancos' new number nine will play down the middle tonight, despite his love of the left wing.

Will he mark his debut with a goal?

17:34

Beginners luck for Atalanta?

There's a first time for everything, right?

Well, that is certainly the case for Italian side Atalanta this evening as they play a part in the UEFA Super Cup for the first time.

They may be the new kids on the block, but after tasting European glory in May - winning the Europa League - Atalanta are not just in Warsaw for a bit of fun.

Gian Piero Gasperini sets his side up to entertain, so expect some fireworks from them. They will go out there and have a crack.

However, they are facing a Real Madrid side flooded with superstars, so it will be one hell of a challenge.

Can the Italians pull off the unlikely?

17:32

Madrid chasing history

I mean, when aren't they?

Real Madrid love breaking records, it's in their nature. Tonight, they can stand alone in the history books if they secure the win.

Los Blancos have won the Super Cup on five occasions, the same amount of times as Barcelona and AC Milan.

No club has ever won six...

If we know anything about Carlo Ancelotti's Madrid side, they won't want to leave Warsaw without their name etched in history once more.

But Atalanta stand in their way.

More European glory for Madrid?

Now, this is going to be a fun night.

This year's summer of sport has been relentless and it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

The competitive football season returned at the weekend as Manchester City beat rivals Manchester United on penalties in the FA Community Shield.

Well, the time has come for European club football's curtain raiser and I can tell you for certain, we are in for a treat.

Serial trophy winners Real Madrid are having a crack at more glory tonight as they tackle their ninth UEFA Super Cup final, facing Italian side Atalanta.

Can Los Blancos make history in Warsaw tonight?

We will find out in just a few hours time.
