Women's golf legend Michelle Wie fumes over creepy Rudy Giuliani story about her 'panties'

Golf star Michelle Wie has recalled being left 'p****d off' when Donald Trump's ex-lawyer Rudy Giuliani joked about seeing her 'panties' during a 2014 charity event.

Giuliani, who served as Mayor of New York from 1994 up until 2001, and radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh played alongside the former World No 6 at a Pro-am event in Florida just over 10 years ago.

And following Limbaugh's passing in 2021, the American politician sparked outrage by telling a creepy story about their round of golf with Wie; claiming that the paparazzi were only trailing them on the day because her underwear was showing.

'On the green is Michele Wie, and she is getting ready to putt,' Giuliani said on Steve Bannon's 'War Room' podcast. 'Now Michelle Wie is gorgeous. She's 6 feet and she has a strange putting stance. She bends all the way over, and her panties show.

'And the press was going crazy. I said [to Rush]: "It's not me, it's not you."'

Wie, who went on to win her first and only major championship at the US Women's Open three months after her round with Giuliani and Limbaugh, hit out at the former Mayor when his comments first aired, fuming that they made her 'shudder'.

Now over a decade on from their initial encounter, the 34-year-old has taken a look back at the saga while also questioning the accuracy of Giuliani's story.

'This is horses**t,' she said about his claim to have seen her 'panties' on the Pablo Torres Finds Out podcast. 'A. We wear shorts under our skirts. It's a very common thing.

'And it's just like so annoying, because I did wear short skirts - but that was like an athletic reason, I don't like having fabric around the lower part of my leg.

'It just p****d me off. Usually I would not respond, I was always the type of person — also with the Asian American thing - [to think] just don't respond, it's not worth it. Don't make waves, don't cause trouble - and I wasn't going to.

'I think at that time I'd either had my daughter or I was going to have my daughter, and I was like "I have to say something for the sake of my daughter and for other girls out there."'

With the help of husband Jonnie West, Wie typed up a furious rebuttal and shared it on social media, albeit without naming Giuliani directly.

Her post said: 'What this person should have remembered from that day was the fact that I shot 64 and beat every male golfer in the field leading our team to victory.

'I shudder thinking he was smiling to my face and complimenting my game while objectifying me and referencing my 'panties' behind my back all day.'

The LPGA backed Wie at the time, saying: 'She’s a 5-time LPGA Tour winner. Major champion. LPGA Board member, elected by her peers. Stanford graduate. Working mother. We stand with @MichelleWieWest'.
