Robert Griffin III may have gotten the short stick from ESPN's most recent round of layoffs but at least his wife is there to support him.
The 34-year-old former NFL quarterback was ousted from the network on Thursday, much to his astonishment and to the surprise of many, as he even shared a clip from the movie 'Friday' on X, in which John Witherspoon's character says: 'How the hell you going to get fired on your day off?'
'Onto bigger and better things,' Griffin's wife, Grete, replied on X.
Griffin and Grete have been married since 2018 and are parents to three daughters. He also has a daughter from a previous relationship.
Griffin, who won the Heisman Trophy back in 2011 while playing college football for Baylor, was hired by ESPN in 2021 and has two years left on his deal, which ESPN is reportedly set to honor.

His salary is in the seven-figure range.
Sam Ponder, the host of 'Sunday NFL Countdown,' was also axed due to cost-cutting reasons while retired Eagles center Jason Kelce was hired by the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network.
After being let go, Griffin expressed gratitude toward those who are still at his former employer in lengthy post on social media.
'Tankful for so many people in my time at ESPN that helped me grow because they are some of the best in the business,' he shared on X. 'From the broadcast booth to the studio ESPCIALLY the people many of you never see behind the camera.

'They are the REAL MVPs and sacrifice so much time with their families just to ensure people like myself in front of the camera even have the opportunity to shine. There were so many awesome experiences and moments that my family and I will never forget from these last 3 years.

So THANK YOU to everyone who has supported my family throughout my playing days and broadcast careers so far. We love you guys and will continue to seek and defend the truth while telling athletes' stories the right way.'
On Friday, Griffin followed up on his post with a separate one that reads: 'When one door closes, another one opens. Trust God on your journey.'
