Lionel Messi is 33/1 to win the Copa America golden boot as the Argentina legend sits in fifth place - with his Inter Milan star compatriot leading the race

Lionel Messi might be the best player to ever kick a football, but he is only the fifth-favourite to win the race for the Copa America golden boot award as things stand, according to Sky Bet odds.

The Albiceleste are in the final where they will take on Colombia on Sunday, looking to add a 16th title, having last won the competition in 2021.

In the final they will take on a Colombia side buoyed by the standout performances of talisman James Rodriguez, and will themselves be going for a first crown since 2001 when they lifted the trophy for a first time.

Messi has long been the go-to man for Lionel Scaloni's side, and while his influence in front of goal might have lessened at the competition, he is still the talismanic leader of the side.

Yet with just one goal to his name in the USA, he only stands an outside chance of snatching the Golden Boot gong, with Sky Bet offering long odds of 33/1 for him to do just that.

The leader of the race is his compatriot and fellow World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez, who has four goals to his name and is therefore the favourite at 1/12

Darwin Nunez, who will take part in the third-place play-off, is second favourite at 10/1, with his Liverpool team-mate Luis Diaz at 20/1 and Julian Alvarez gets odds of 22/1.

Messi then comes in fifth, joint with Colombia's Jhon Cordoba on 33/1, the Krasnodar striker having netted twice.

Sky Bet Golden Boot odds:

Lautaro Martinez 1/12

Darwin Nunez 10/1

Luis Diaz 20/1

Julian Alvarez 22/1

Lionel Messi 33/1

Jhon Cordoba 33/1
