Katie Holmes looks happy as she poses with Dave Matthews and Carter Beauford at their 'incredible' concert in New York

Katie Holmes let her hair down while enjoying a night out in New York.

The Dawson's Creek star, 45, attended the Dave Matthews Band concert at Northwell Jones Beach Theater in New York State on Tuesday night.

Katie – who recently attended Paris Fashion Week – took to Instagram to share two black and white snaps from the concert – her ticket and a photo with Dave Matthews, 57, and drummer Carter Beauford, 65.

She captioned the post: 'Thank you @davematthewsband for an AMAZING night!'

In the photos, the Alone Together director wore a casual, flowy white t-shirt and a pair of patchwork pants.

Fans of the band commented on a connection between DMB and Dawson's Creek in the comments of her post.

'And Dave Matthews Band has been on Dawson’s Creek!,' one fan chimed in, referring to the band's song Lover Lay Down, which appeared in the season two episode High Risk Behavior.

Another fan commented: 'This is so 90s,' while a third added: 'So fun! All of my college throwbacks in one place.'

One fan commented that seeing the Dave Matthews Band live was on their 'bucket list' and Katie replied that the concert 'was so incredible!'

Further down in the comments, someone asked Katie what her favorite DMB song was and she replied: 'Crash.'

Although Katie had seats for the show which saw the band play hits #41 and Dancing Nancies as well as a cover of David Bowie's Let's Dance, she left her seats to go down to the pit and dance with the other fans.

Eyewitnesses at the show said the First Daughter actress was alone at the show and appeared to be enjoying herself.

She was left alone to enjoy the concert like any other fan as she moved closer to the stage.

DMB fans also noted that Katie's patchwork pants were remarkably similar to the band's saxophone player Jeff Coffin's pants that night.

Katie's night out comes as her daughter Suri Noelle, 18, prepares to leave for college at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Suri just graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, the school the movie Fame was based on.

Suri is well-equipped to handle life in Pittsburgh after growing up in New York City.

'The city has a lot to offer, and I use it. Yes, it's a little too exposed at times, and we work hard to maneuver and navigate,' Katie told InStyle. 'But what I love about New York is that for me and my child, this is our vibe.'
