Winona Ryder says she 'DID wear' Kendall Jenner's 2024 Met Gala dress back in 1999 - after model claimed she was the 'first' to do it

A quarter of a century later, Winona Ryder is reflecting on a look that has recently made a comeback.

After Kendall Jenner claimed to be the first person to wear an archival Givenchy look created by Alexander McQueen in 1999 at this year's Met Gala, Ryder, 52, has confirmed she modeled the style 25 years ago for Flaunt Magazine.

'I heard about that,' Ryder told Harper's Bazaar after Jenner, 28, said on the red carpet in May that she's the 'first human' to wear the dress.

'I do remember that photo shoot. It was with my dear friend [and makeup artist] Kevyn Aucoin' said Ryder.

'And I did wear it. I have pictures,' she added. 'The photographer gave me some prints. I'm in a tartan in one of them, and I'm in that dress.'

Jenner previously told Vogue that the dress was 'literally a sleeping beauty,' keeping with the Costume Institute Benefit's 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion' theme.

'It's been sleeping for the last 25 years,' said Jenner, adding: 'It's such a special moment. I feel extremely honored that they're allowing me to wear it.'

Givenchy clarified at the time that Ryder wore a replica in her 1999 Flaunt shoot, meaning Jenner was the first person to wear that specific dress.

Photographer Warwick Saint, who shot the Flaunt cover of Ryder, previously shared the photos after Jenner's Met outing.

'I shot this image of Winona Ryder back in 1999, wearing this authentic Givenchy dress,' Saint wrote on Instagram

'It was captured at Milk Studios for Flaunt Magazine, with makeup by Kevin Aucoin, hair by Ward, and styling by Kithe Brewster,' he recalled.

Saint continued, 'Interestingly, Kendall Jenner claimed she was the first to wear this dress and a few people have reached out to me asking if it was authentic ~ it definitely was the authentic Givenchy dress for sure.'

Others were quick to call out Jenner over seemingly misleading fans about the authenticity of her look.

'What a scam, turns out Kendall Jenner is not the first person to wear this Givenchy by McQueen gown!' wrote one person on X.

'And I did wear it. I have pictures,' added Ryder. 'The photographer gave me some prints. I'm in a tartan in one of them, and I'm in that dress'

'Not sure why Kendall said she’s the first person to wear it, she may not have known it was worn before unless Winona's version isn’t the original,' another added.

Others spoke up in defense of the Kardashians star. 'I'm sorry but there's no way y'all think Winona who is 5'3 is going to fit into a piece where the model is like 5'10. It's obviously a replica,' one person wrote.

'Some of y'all have some vendetta against Kendall that isn't making y'all use your brain correctly (not targeted to the op),' they added.
