Love Island star Malin Andersson reveals she's found love with Swedish man who is 'complete opposite' of her exes and gushes her 'heart is full' after past 'toxic and abusive' relationships

Malin Andersson has revealed she has found love again, after suffering through both heartbreak and abuse in her previous relationships.

The Love Island star, 31, explained that she met her new boyfriend online after a period of 'healing', and gushed that she had 'never been connected with someone like with him' ever before.

Her last boyfriend Jared broke up with her just four weeks after she gave birth to their daughter, Xaya, in January 2022.

While her former partner Tom Kemp was abusive during their relationship, and was jailed in 2020 for assaulting her.

Malin - who is half-Swedish and half-Sri Lankan - explained that her new boyfriend also hails from Sweden and was 'nothing like her usual type'.

She told New magazine: 'It's early days, but I've never met anyone like him. I've never been connected with someone like I have with him my whole life and it makes me emotional thinking about it.

'When you've gone through all of these abusive relationships, you get to do the healing and then you get comfortable being on your own. I got to a point where I was like, "Maybe I'm just going to always be on my own, just me and Xaya and I'm coo with that." But now my heart is full.'

She explained that her previous relationships had been 'codependent and toxic' because her past trauma had closed her off and made her desperate to be loved.

But Malin said that her new partner had also undergone a lot of work on themselves, so was able to understand her own healing journey.

She said: '[He is] so supportive. It's like when two people who have done the inner work right, they face the dark parts of themselves, then they understand. We met online. I normally date tall basketball player types, with dark features - but he's blond and blue eyed. He's completely opposite and is from Sweden, the homeland.

'The feeling I'm getting inside is completely different [from my exes]. My heart has been so closed because of the grief and pain that I've had. I remember the men who I've been with, that little girl inside of me was like, "Love me, love me."

'I would just be codependent and toxic because my heart has been so closed but, the work that I've done where I'm going into these relationship healed as helped me be safe in myself. So, I hope the woman who are reading this, who have been in abusive relationships, can come out the other side too.'

Earlier this month, Malin told Mail+ that her problematic relationships had stemmed from her own lack of self worth.

She said: 'All my relationships have followed the same pattern though — with emotionally unavailable men. And part of the issue was with me feeling unloved, unloveable.'

While in May, she admitted to MailOnline that she was 'vulnerable' on Love Island and wasn't in the state of mind to find the connection she was looking for, leading to further 'trauma'.

She explained: 'When I went through my abusive relationships it was really me screaming I want to be loved.

'I don't love myself, so I'll accept any kind of love - even if it's abuse. And when I realised that and let them go, I could really see I was creating that in my life.'

He was the father of her baby girl Consy, who tragically died with a heart defect in January 2019, just one month after being delivered at 33 weeks.

While Malin has been candid about her battle with drink and drug abuse, after former boyfriend Jared left her 'blindsided' and 'distraught', when he broke up with her after Xaya was born.

She revealed that she struggled with co-parenting and the loneliness she felt caused her to spiral into 'negative behaviour' to cope, including binge drinking and taking drugs.

She previously said: 'Even when I was with my daughter, I was angry at my ex for putting me in this situation, and full of grief that we weren’t the perfect family I’d always dreamed of.'

She recalled having screaming matches with Jared and admitted her jealousy would cause her to mess around with his days to have Xaya, exacerbating to a point where she 'couldn’t bear to set eyes on him'.

Malin confessed: 'That was probably one of the hardest things I went through, that first year of her life. For me, it literally made me who I was.'

She finally checked herself into a £12,000 rehab clinic for a three-week programme and spent 2023 focusing on her health and 'internal healing'.
