Thanks, Britney Spears! Kate Beckinsale, 50, shrugs off ageist trolls by baring her midriff in selfie after surprise show of support from singer

Kate Beckinsale shrugged off ageist online trolls by posing for a mid-riff baring selfie after getting a surprise show of support from none other than Britney Spears.

The 50-year-old posted a series of pictures to Instagram on Wednesday, wearing a two-piece white outfit.

The top and shorts set gave followers a look at Beckinsale's flat stomach and toned legs.

The actress wore her hair pulled back in a headband and sported gold jewelry as she posed in front of a mirror.

Beckinsale made a serious face in one photo and smiled brightly in the other.

The English star's post comes after Britney Spears defended her in an Instagram post on Wednesday, after Beckinsale hit back at trolls who were critical of her for posting clips of herself dancing to blow off steam amid a series of personal tragedies she's dealing with.

Spears, 42, posted a text post in which she came to the defense of Beckinsale who has been contending with personal issues including her stepfather's death; her mother's cancer diagnosis; and a six-week stretch in a hospital.

The Grammy-winning singer told her 42.2 million followers, 'Have you guys seen the movie Serendipity with Kate Beckinsale? Well let me tell you ... if you haven't you definitely should!!!

'I adore Kate Beckinsale especially because she's from London!!! I realized how incredibly cruel people were talking about her IG saying she needs more age appropriate content ... she's in her fifties and I thought it was pretty badass how she responded with a mini bow in her hair looking literally 4 years old!!!'

The Oops!... I Did It Again artist said that 'wealth and health' isn't 'relied solely' on finances, but rather serving back these wise a** a**holes just as Kate did!!!'

Spears drew a parallel to criticism she's received for her social media posts and the feedback that Beckinsale has gotten, referring to 'comments' left on her page saying that 'it's sad' that she's 'dancing every single day' on her Instagram at her age.

Spears said that she 'taught a dance class last week to a couple of teenagers' and that she feels it's important for people 'to HELP EACH OTHER' and invite each other to places that help our souls grow!!!'

The Toxic vocalist asked, 'What are you gonna do to help someone out and bring their dreams to life besides being like me and Kate's haters saying we're too old or don't have appropriate content???

'Do you think perhaps they might be offended by what they see?'

The ...Baby One More Time performer said she believes that being vulnerable enough to ask someone for inspiration or help is incredibly beautiful ...

'But ironically in the world we live in with how incredibly cruel people can be you have to be extremely careful who you allow in your circle and your heart!!!

Spears also addressed recent criticism from Ozzy Osbourne, 75, and daughter Kelly Osbourne, 39, who were critical of her Instagram posts in which she dances, on their The Osbournes podcast.

Kelly said she felt 'sorry' for the songstress while Ozzy said, 'You know, it’s sad, very, very sad.'

Beckinsale earlier this month took to Instagram to push back on critics who cited her age and appearance in response to a series of social media posts in which she blew off steam amid troubled times.

Along with one clip, Beckinsale quoted Kanye West's 2010 song Runaway in saying to her critics, 'Let's have a toast for the douche bags. Let's have a toast for the a**holes. Let's have a toast for the scumbags.'

Beckinsale cited the 'stress and grief' she's experienced amid the death of her stepfather Roy Battersby earlier this year, as well as her mother Judy Loe's cancer diagnosis as well as health issues she's contended with.
