Halo gets canceled by Paramount Plus after just two seasons... as the show's producers try to find a new home for Season 3

Fans of the Paramount Plus TV series Halo were delivered quite the blow on Thursday, with news that the streaming service has canceled it.

The show - based on the massively popular Halo video game series - debuted in 2022 on Paramount Plus, starring Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief John-117.

The show was renewed for a second season, which debuted in January and concluded its eight-episode run in March.

The show's producers - 343 Industries and Amblin Television - will move forward and try to find a new home for the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It's unclear if this project has any potential suitors in the broadcast, cable or streaming landscape at this time.

'We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work,' Paramount Plus said in a statement.

The streaming service added, 'We wish everyone the best going forward,' with the report adding that they would be 'supportive' to the show continuing elsewhere.

'We deeply appreciate the millions of fans who propelled the Halo series to be a global success, and we remain committed to broadening the Halo universe in different ways in the future,' read a statement from 343 Industries.

'We are grateful to Amblin and Paramount for their partnership in bringing our expansive sci-fi universe to viewers around the world,' the statement concluded.

The first game in the iconic series - Halo: Combat Evolved - launched in 2001, and almost ever since then, either a movie or TV show has been in development.

The first of these projects was a feature film, written by 28 Days Later and Ex Machina scribe Alex Garland.

The finished script was even delivered to studios around Los Angeles by couriers who were all dressed in Master Chief costumes.

Peter Jackson was on board to executive produce with Neill Blomkamp set to direct, years before his breakthrough directorial debut District 9.
