Hugh Jackman reveals how his children Oscar and Ava inspired him to reprise his most iconic role in Deadpool & Wolverine

Hugh Jackman has revealed how his children Oscar and Ava inspired him to reprise his iconic Marvel superhero role in the upcoming blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Sydney-born star, 55, who last played the foul-mouthed X-Men hero Wolverine in the 2017 movie Logan, revealed on Thursday that a conversation with his kids convinced him to once again take on the role.

'I had been talking to my kids about, "what do you want to do with your life? What is it you want to do if you could do anything?",' he told The Daily Telegraph.

'And I thought I should ask that of myself: if I could do anything – and I am super lucky in that in many ways I can ask myself that question – what would it be?'

He added that one of the things he wanted most out of life was to once again play Wolverine, despite previously insisting he was done with the character

Hugh said he then contacted Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, 47, and told him he would accept his offer to appear alongside him in a movie, despite previously declining.

'Ryan and I are good friends so I knew that he was getting ready to shoot but I wasn't sure where he was at. I thought if he was shooting now then this is going to be years down the track.'

Deadpool & Wolverine is third movie in the action comedy series featuring Reynolds and will mark the tenth time Jackman has played Wolverine.

He first played Wolverine in the 2000 movie X-Men and has since appeared in several sequels and spin-offs.

In May, it was reported that Jackman was finding solace in his grown-up children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, following his split from wife Deborra-Lee Furness last year.

The 55-year-old actor has reportedly been 'sad' amid the high-profile divorce, according to Woman's Day.

However, it appears his greatest comfort comes from his children, who have stepped up to support their father during this challenging time.

'They know him better than he does and are constantly surprising him,' a close friend told the publication.

'They've become closer than he could have imagined and he can confide in them, whereas before he'd turn to Deb,' the friend added.

Friends of the actor are hopeful that his deep bond with his children will help him overcome the current emotional slump.
