Meanwhile, Nancy Spungen's body was discovered in the hotel room she shared with Sid in 1978, which led to countless questions and theories swirling around her death - with Sid dying of a drug overdose in February 1979

Jimi Hendrix, the fourth star that is set to reportedly feature in the investigative doc, died in 1970 of asphyxia while intoxicated with barbiturates.

A source told the publication: 'All four celebrities had a lasting impact on the world of popular culture during their lifetimes while also experiencing untimely deaths in their twenties.

'But the real thing that unites them is debate still rages over how they died, with Tupac's death in particular still a huge topic of debate.

'Step forward Romesh, a man with no experience of criminal investigations whatsoever, who is going to attempt to crack each case once and for all.'

And the comedian is booked and busy as he's also set to front a number of other upcoming shows.

It was first broadcast on Sky One back in March 2010 and was fronted by James Corden for its first thirteen seasons, before being taken over by Romesh.

Fresh from completing his final series of BAFTA-winning Misadventures earlier this year, Romesh is shifting gear from exploring some of the world's least tourist-friendly destinations to investigating the lives and deaths of some of the world's most intriguing cultural icons.

The series is set to launch on BBC Two and iPlayer this summer, will see the presenter delve into the stories of entertainment figures who've always been a source of fascination for him.

The subjects have all had a lasting impact on popular culture during their lifetimes whilst also experiencing untimely deaths in their twenties that have long been a topic of suspicion and debate.

Ably assisted by criminal psychologist, writer and podcaster Dr Julia Shaw, Romesh talks to experts, eyewitnesses, friends and journalists to learn more about the remarkable lives of each of these stars and try to unravel the enduring mystery behind their tragic deaths.

Part investigation and part biography, The Misinvestigations of Romesh Ranganathan gently pillories the true crime genre whilst providing viewers with a fresh, empathetic insight into four often misunderstood life stories played out in the unforgiving glare of the media spotlight.

Romesh said: 'We wanted a spin-off for Misadventures, and after we discussed Misinterpretations, Miscalculations and Misunderstandings, we finally settled on Misinvestigations. It's been really interesting to look into these high-profile deaths and I am very excited for people to see the show. Unless of course people don't like it, in which case I will release a statement explaining how I never really believed in the project.'

The Misinvestigations of Romesh Ranganathan was commissioned by Catherine Catton, Head of Commissioning, Factual Entertainment and Events. The series is produced by Rumpus Media (part of the STV Studios family), with Emily Hudd and Morgan Roberts serving as Executive Producers. The Commissioning Editor is Ricky Cooper.

The Sun have also reported that the presenter will supposedly be hosting a new series of the the iconic children's TV show Art Attack.

The ITV show, which saw national treasure Neil Buchanan, 67, flaunt his artistic flare from 1990 to 2007, will now reportedly be fronted by the comedian.

Romesh, who does not have the strongest reputation for his art abilities, will have some big boots to fill in his new role as his predecessor was such a good artist he was accused of being secret artist, Banksy.

In 2020, the rumours swarmed social media so much, Neil felt compelled to respond publicly.

The British TV personality, 67 was speculated to be the elusive artist after a Twitter user's post about the conspiracy theory went viral.

Racking up over 2,000 re-tweets, the user wrote: 'Just heard that it's rumoured Neil Buchanan is Banksy. If true, it's the funniest s*** ever. Aintree's finest.

'He's a musician and art has followed in the cities of shows he's done allegedly. This is straight in the 'believe without question' category.'

A representative for Neil penned a statement on his website revealing they had been inundated with enquiries from people attempting to fact check the rumour.

Denying the suggestion, they wrote: 'Unfortunately this website does not have the infrastructure to answer all these enquiries individually, however we can confirm that there is no truth in the rumour whatsoever.

'Neil spent lockdown with vulnerable members of his family and is now preparing to launch his new art collection in 2021. Thank you and please stay safe.'

But, in other news, Romesh's  hit BBC comedy series Avoidance has been 'axed' after just two series.

The presenter is well known for his work on the comedy series Rob & Romesh Vs..., The Weakest Link, and Asian Provocateur.

Avoidance, which first broadcast in June 2022, will sadly not be returning for a series three.

He also revealed that the show is taking inspiration from another beloved BBC series, in terms of how long it would be on air.

Speaking to Tom Davis on his podcast, the comedian said: 'Thankfully the commissioners have taken care of that for me.'

To which Tom replied with: 'How come you didn't do a third series of that sitcom?' and Romesh responded with: 'Oh cause we just thought the story was told.'

He continued: 'We're following the Office model – just like two and done.'

The Misinvestigations of Romesh Ranganathan airs on BBC Two and iPlayer later this month.
