The Hear'Say singer broke down in tears on Loose Women last month as she opened up on her best friend Lauren Laverne's cancer battle.

The One Show presenter and BBC Radio 4 DJ broke the news of her diagnosis just a few hours earlier by uploading a selfie from her hospital bed.

The mother of-two did not reveal the type of cancer she had been diagnosed with but said it had been picked up 'unexpectedly' during a screening test and had been caught early.

Her BFF Myleene was one of the first to share a message of support on her post, before breaking into tears during Loose Women.

The panel began the show by discussing the sad news, turning to Myleene to see how she was doing.

The singer couldn't hold back the tears as she joked Lauren would 'tell me off' for crying, and explained that they were the godmothers to each other's children.

She said: 'Yeah she's my bestie. She's going to tell me off! She's the godmother to my kids, I'm godmother to her kids. She's wonderful, we just got back from holiday together.'

Myleene then praised her pal for her strength and using the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of getting tested.

She said: 'It's so Lauren to use her platform to help others. She's in great hands, it just shows you that cancer doesn't' discriminate, look at King Charles, Princess Kate and now my best mate.

'It shows what an incredible woman she is that she's using her platform to tell people to get tested if you've got any niggle something is wrong.'

The the Hear'Say star went on: 'I've known her 20 years and to see her still powering through at this time. She's incredible and I'm so proud! Many more exciting years to celebrate.'

As she regained her composure, Myleene admitted seeing Lauren's picture had reduced her to tears, saying: 'It's just because you see your beautiful friend's face and it's so close to home'.

Announcing her diagnosis on social media, Lauren wrote: 'Right then, some personal news… I recently had a cancer diagnosis.

'It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery.

'I'm in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: Firstly to the medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness.

'To my family and friends who have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way - I am so very grateful and love you so much. And of course thank you to my colleagues - including those at @itg_ltd, @bbc6music, @bbctheoneshow and #DesertIslandDiscs for their support - and for giving me the time off that I need to get better.'

She went on to urge others that might be 'avoiding a test or putting off an appointment to get yourself checked out' to 'please, please do it today'.

'Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out asap is everything,' she said.

'It's usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore. xxx'

Resharing the news, Myleene wrote on her Instagram Story: 'Everyone jump over to my @laurenlaverne's feed and show her some love and support.

'Lala, thank you for when at you most vulnerable, reminding us to keep vigilant and get checked at the first sign.

'You hope and pray cancer will never come for you, your family or friends and seeing it happen in real time has been very scary.

'Lauren, you have been incredible every step of the way. Thank you to the healthcare staff who continue to look after my bestie. Love you Lala x'.

The stars have been friends for two decades and Myleene previously detailed how Lauren supported her as she suffered a devastating miscarriage while live on-air during her Smooth Radio show.
