It's been more than 20 years since the Spice Girls' only Australian visit for a promotional tour for their movie Spice World in 1997.

During the visit, they did not perform or host concerts.

'I'm hoping to get the Spice Girls on tour in Australia, as well as America and Asia, and everywhere else, but my number one thing is Australia,' Mel said.

She cheekily added: 'I said it enough and it happened for the UK, so maybe if I say it enough for Australia it which actually happen.'

Mel also revealed she was 'hoping and praying' Posh Spice - aka Victoria Beckham - would make a surprise appearance during the UK shows, but admitted 'as of right now there's no commitment'.

Mel C (Sporty Spice) also told Australian radio station KIIS FM in January that Australia was definitely on the band's mind.

'It’s all UK for now, but we all know that we really owe our Australian fans a visit, so I’ve got everything crossed.'

She added: 'If it was up to me, we would be there... It has to work for everybody. The four of us, we make the decisions. But you know, it is tricky.'

Why not us? While the Spice Girls have never performed a show in Australia, the band did enjoy a brief pit-stop in late 1997 to promote their cinema classic Spiceworld: The Movie

According to The Sun in January, plans for a lucrative US tour were rejected Geri Horner (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Mel C and Mel B despite being offered big-money offers from promoters.

The publication claims a summer tour at top US stadiums could have earned the band $140 million.

Australian fans of the iconic 1990s girl-group were left outraged in November when Australia missed out on the band's concerts again.

The group's 2007-08 world tour famously fell apart before they reached the country, despite the band announcing a Sydney date.

Mel B has been fueling rumorus of a visit Down Under since November, when she appeared on British Panel Loose Women.

When asked whether the band was planning a world tour she said: 'We are. The hopes are that we go everywhere else in the world, but right now it's just the UK.'
