Biggest pizza chain in America revealed - and it's not Pizza Hut or Domino's

Many Americans consider the battle for the dominant pizza chain to be between Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa John’s and maybe Little Caesar's.

But actually there is another that has thousands more locations than any of those.

Step forward Hunt Brothers Pizza, which is only in 36 states but has 9,703 outlets in more than 4,000 cities.

In February, Hunt Brothers became the biggest pizza chain in the US.

It has achieved this by quietly dominating the market in convenience stores and gas stations.

Hunt Brothers Pizza has 9,703 outlets in more than 4,000 cities across America, while the second-largest chain, Domino's Pizza, has 6,929 locations across the 50 states and in two territories

Instead of having its own bricks-and-mortar restaurants like its rivals, Hunt Brothers benefits from the collective foot traffic of sharing a space with other businesses.

The chain offers ten different toppings and the modest price comes to between $10 and $12, depending on location.

For those on the move early during a road trip the chain even offers a Breakfast pizza with scrambled eggs, crispy chopped bacon, breakfast sausage crumbles, and cheese.

Hunt Brothers also offers chicken wings and boneless WingBites in four different flavors: Home Style, Buffalo, Southern Style, and Hot 'n Spicy.

The franchise was started by the four original Hunt brothers Don, Charlie, Jim, and Lonnie in 1991.

The now-largest- pizza chain in America remains family owned and has even racked up sponsorships with the likes of NASCAR driver Joey Logano.

The second-largest chain, Domino's Pizza, has 6,929 locations across the 50 states and in two territories.

It's biggest presence is in Texas where there are a whopping 742 locations across the state.

Pizza Hut followed closely in third with 6,775 locations across the US and its territories.

While both of those have fewer locations, their profits are much bigger. Pizza Hut has in-restaurant dining, and both do deliveries.

Meanwhile, a recent survey rated the best cities for pizza across America.

New York City and Chicago are normally up there, and Detroit was top the previous two years.

But it was Denver, Colorado, that claimed to be best for pizza, according to a comprehensive study that looked at EIGHT measures.

In a nutshell, researchers from Clever Real Estate considered typical price, the number of restaurants and how well they were rated plus a so-called 'pizza passion' score.
