The Red Rider’s time has come, but a forbidden love may keep him from answering the call.

As the second Horseman of the Apocalypse, War is tasked with fueling the flames of the destruction caused by his brother, Conquest. But War has discovered a connection he’s carried forever … one that will change everything.

Uriel, the Archangel of Diligence, must defeat War and stop the Apocalypse from coming to fruition. He won’t allow anything to throw him off the course he’s chosen for himself, especially not a smart-mouth Horseman who’s his polar opposite in every way. Fire and ice were never meant to fall in love.

When Uriel and War are thrown together by circumstances beyond their control, they are forced to confront a past they’ve both been running from. Faced with challenges, betrayal and the war brewing between Heaven and Hell, they have a choice to make. It isn’t only the bond between them at stake; their very existence hangs in the balance.

Uriel must decide what side of the fight he’s on … and War must decide what he’s willing to give up for an Archangel’s love.

War is the second book in the Four Horsemen series. This book is not a standalone and must be read in order.

Content Warnings: Religious themes, extreme violence, gore and others.

Arachnophobia warning: There is also a dog-sized pet spider name Paul who just wants to be loved.

This is an approximately 85,000-word paranormal enemies to lovers MM romance that contains a HFN filled with snark and morally questionable characters.

Huh! Not gonna lie but it really looks like God’s the bad guy here. 👀

Holy hell. Or better yet, holy fire & ice. This one was even better than the first and also totally my kind of hate-to-love-you . And man, War really fucked up with Uriel once upon a time. No wonder the Archangel became the Ice-Prince.

“[…] you think that you can just take everything back? That we can rewind the clock, and all of our history just no longer exists? You don’t get to decide that. You didn’t want me then, what’s changed now?”

But all that made this story the best of romance-entertainment there is for me. All the intense feels!! And with this second book the author definitely became better in writing tension and sizzling hot encounters. The hate-sex was glorious!

“I like it hot, sweetheart.”
Uriel scowled. “Don’t call me that.”

War is probably the most laid back of the Horsemen and I’d say the most likable. Uriel being his complete opposite, prickly that he was. Their banter and verbal battles were entertaining as fuck! But their love story also was everything.

“Do you really think there will ever be a world where I don’t find my way back to you?”

And the overarching plot still had me in its grip as well, with all the mysteries and revelations. But it all also made me a bit wary now when it comes to the next one —the tragic love story of Famine (the third of the Horsemen) and Lucifer (you know, once an Archangel himself). 🫣

Once again I give extra cheers to the supporting cast of the story, especially, like before, to the Horseman’s mare. This time starring Feud, not only fierce looking with her flaming mane but also in her personality.

Feud was nearby, prancing around the Demons, lighting some on fire and kicking others’ heads in. She was having a grand time.

Ha, lol.

side note: each book follows a different, intriguing couple but they all have an overarching storyline so they have to be read in order.

Wow, what an improvement to book 1!

Although, knowing what I know now about the „big“ story arc, I might have rated book 1 higher, too.

This one follows War, the fiery of the four horsemen, and Uriel, the self righteous Archangel with the gift of ice who follows God’s orders without questioning them. To call it “enemies to lovers” would be an understatement, at least in Uriel’s side - he hates War and what he stands for from the bottom of his frozen heart.

Ever so slowly, we get to know about Uriel’s past, and why he’s become the being he is now. And you start to… understand, and dare I say even LIKE him? Despite the cruel and despicable things he’s done in the past. I felt sorry for him and for his struggles to accept that many things he believed in for so long are different than they seemed.

And painting God as the bad guy, the one who literally kills and maims for the “greater good”? What an unexpected and fresh spin to the story 🥰 I’m really REALLY curious about what happened to Michael - is he really the black Archangel from the Death realm? And more importantly, can he be saved?

And now I’m off for Samael/Lucifer/Diablo and Famine’s book - which sounds more than promising, now that Lucifer has been cut off from controlling his demons 😈

"What is this?" Uriel said, frustrated. "Suddenly, because you've worked out that we have this stupid connection, you think that you can just take everything back? That we can rewind the clock, and all our history just not longer exists? You don't get to decide that. You didn't want me then, what's changed now?"
War faltered.

gagged! oh my god this was amazing! this is an enemies-to-lovers story between the archangel uriel and his nemesis the hot horseman, war. sieanna moreau's works are probably the only paranormal/fantasy books that i can digest and appreciate right now. my only advice is probably to wait for the series to finish first then binge it? i obvi didn't do that so the first good chunk of this story i was a kinda lost. i can't remember whos who and whats what and all that. these books are not standalones too! loved conquest and his wingless angel raziel in book one and uriel and war didn't disappoint in this. excited for famine and diablo in the next book!

5 I-need-more-War-and-Uriel-in-my-life stars⭐

This was a great continuation of the series. The book starts almost immediately where book 1, Conquest, ended, with War and Uriel stranded in an unknown Dimension. Danger lurks in every corner and if they want to make it out alive, they have to put their differences away and work together.

I truly loved this book and War and Uriel's relationship. In the last book Uriel wasn't a really nice character. Hid did some horrific things to both Conquest and Raziel. In this installment, however, when his backstory was revealed and we got to know him more, I simply loved him. And don't get me started about him and War together as a couple. Wooh! The banter, the chemistry, the tension, the enemies-to-lovers. It was perfect.

If you love dark paranormal romance, don't miss out on this series.

RTC but damn did I enjoy this. I’m such a fan of this series so far. Paul (a giant dog sized pet spider) still sold the show in this one, but I really enjoy the couple in this book and i’m just so into the storylines in these books, they’re so much fun to read.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion

2.5 stars – This book took me a long time to muddle through. I don’t think the author is making the Horsemen’s tasks clear enough. Yes, we were told in the first book what each one was supposed to do, but we were also told that once they completed their respective tasks that they could return “home” to their dimension to rest. Now War is supposedly working on his task, which should mean that Conquest completed his. Yet Conquest is still there and hasn’t returned “home” to rest. I find this, as well as other things in this series, confusing.

I would never claim to be a biblical scholar, there’s too much about the Bible that I find can be interpreted in different ways depending on which version you read. But I did spend 2 years at Bible college immersed in what was given to me. Even that Bible left out scripture that other Bibles contain. Maybe this puts me at a disadvantage when reading a series like this. But regardless of all that, I think it’s bad form (even in fiction –where anything goes) to place a superior being (no matter who that may be) who is supposed to epitomize the very meaning of Good in the position of being the villain. That’s not saying that Diablo/Lucifer/Samael/whatever other name the author deems to give him, isn’t a villain. He certainly is. There were enough liberties taken with the whole archangel line that I think God should have been left out entirely. There’s a lot of folklore in here too that people may mistake as biblical fact. Important tip: never get your “facts” from a book labeled as fiction. It’s fiction for a reason.

We know that these four books have an overarching plot line. I thought we’d be somewhat closer to knowing what was going on by the end of book 2. I mean, we’re halfway through! We still have NO idea who summoned the Horesemen. Both Lucifer/Diablo and God claim that it wasn’t them. Supposedly they’re the only ones with enough power to do so.

The beginning of this book finds Uriel and War in an alternate dimension with some very dark beings. I found this whole sequence ridiculous. Uriel and War are supposed to be running for their lives, yet they have enough time for War to be seducing Uriel – enough time for sex. 🙄 I didn’t buy the reason why they thought these beings were what they claimed they were. They made assumptions based on the size of the doors of the buildings/houses they saw. What?? It didn’t make sense.

We also get to meet a human by the name of Atlas. He is a United States military man. Atlas has his own duet of books coming out where he is the third in Conquest and Raziel’s relationship. Again, I say, what??? Conquest is über possessive of Raziel in the first book. Very alpha “no one else will ever touch my man” kind of stuff. Now the author is giving them a third? 🤯

Idk what to say about the rest of the book. It was odd. I low key enjoyed it and I’m definitely curious as to where this author thinks she’s going with these characters. I’m all for angel/demon stories, but I think this author crossed a line by choosing to make these characters sound like actual biblical characters. It muddies waters beyond comprehension.

**If interested, I’ve made some notes about certain aspects of this story in relation to the Bible. Some of them can be found in my notes/highlights. I believe this author is very familiar with the Apocryphal books and used them as a basis some of her characters. The Apocrypha is not canonical.**

A story about War (one of the four Horsemen) and Uriel (an Archangel) 🧡

This is the second book in a series that must be read in order. I admit that I enjoyed the first book more.
I couldn't wait for War and Uriel's story, but Uriel drove me crazy in this book.He was too annoying, too stubborn, too blind about some things even when the answers were in front of him, and no matter what I just couldn't understand how he could feel the way he did at the end about someone.

From the other hand I adored War. And the second half of the book was definitely better for me.

War ends on a cliffhanger. I knew that going into the book but I didn't expect the end to be so abrupt. I was shocked when I saw there are no more chapters. It was too sudden, out of nowhere. The next book will be following different characters, even though the main plot continues. Thus being said, the ending of War and Uri felt like something was missing (not the plot that's obviously not finished, but their feelings, their romantic story).

I still enjoyed some parts of this book. Especially, when they got together. Fire and Ice, a Horseman and an Archangel, War and Uriel. It was amazing to look these two put down their walls. Even though there were things I didn't like, I will continue this series, since I'm curious about the other Horsemen. And the plot as a whole is pretty interesting. But I hope the next book is better, since I will most definitely dnf if it's like this one.

Jesus Christ I fucking looooved this.

Enemies to lovers to soul mates that took me out at the knees. From page one I couldn’t breathe until I was done the book and it was nonstop enthrallment. I wasn’t bored for a second of it.

War and Uriel could’ve used a bit more scenes for relationship ship development, yes. But what we got was near-perfection and I chugged it down like the addict I am for the obsessive, some how connected, asshole characters we get here. Seriously, both of these guys are absolute twats and I loved them.

I love that it’s not just Lucifer who is descending/has descended into madness.

Hot as fuck. Fun as hell. We even went to hell. These books are such a good time.

Both felt superior to the other, War and Uriel, the Horseman and the Archangel. Fire and Ice.
Both filled with fury, but oh boy, there is an attraction they can’t deny.

Working together is the only option, even when they hate each other. Hate and love are both strong emotions and never far apart. Stubbornness is a strong attitude, poking the enemy, gosh, and I loved it! Watch when the fog disappeared and reveals the history!

Get amazed by all the creatures before your eyes. Get amazed by all the creativity of this author.
The whole story is full of mystery, violence, angst, and gore, there are triggers warnings, don’t ignore them!
An enthralling and enchanting story.

War is the second book in Sienna Moreau’s The Four Horsemen series. The author states this is not a standalone and I mostly agree (though if you JUST want an intense M/M opposites attract book steeped in religious themes, you may enjoy this.) In terms of story timelines, it picks up almost right where War and Uriel disappear in book one. However, Moreau has included several flashback scenes–one of which serves as the opening to this book–that featured a character named Ambrose. These flashbacks had me making wild guesses as to who Ambrose was. I thought it was fun to read about Ambrose, an innocent kid from a farm. Ambrose’s thread ended up being full of foreshadowing; I really liked trying to connect to the main storyline.

Enemies to lovers done right

This is what all enemies to lovers should strive to be! Uri and War have that right amount of hate and yet still feel deeply for one and another. They have that perfect bantering dynamic that you never really know if they will love each other for all eternity or will end up killing the other. The passion is that strong and entrancing. You know they are everything to the other. What a great read! Cannot wait to see what the next Horsemen installment will bring to us.

“You need to shut up,” Uriel hissed, squeezing tighter, “before I rip out your spine and feed it to you.”
“You’re a sexy fuck, Uri, but you’re a little rough around the edges. Anyone ever told you that?” Uriel’s purple eyes darkened, his lips curling into a snarl.
“Stop. Talking.”
“Are you gonna make me?”

That damn spider did it again. Paul is definitely in my top 5 best companions in a series. He’s just adorable. Disclaimer: this is not an invitation for the spiders in my house to appear. I'm more than with them remaining hidden.
I wonder if there’s going to be a spin-off because I'm definitely interested to know the stories of some of the characters. Like Atlas, Amii and the rest of the Archangels. I would totally read a series about them!

description

The first chapters felt a little bit flat and repetitive, especially the dialogues between Uriel and War. I mean, like any enemies-to-lovers fan I love reading arguments between the MCs but I was feeling some lack of depth at first. But after that everything changed and I just couldn't stop reading. War’s playfulness and Uriel’s stubbornness made them perfect for each other.
I don’t feel this is a dark book but I could see some people not liking MCs that had been a little bit mean, to put it mildly, throughout the series.

I really liked book one but I knew that this one was going to top it. I truly can’t wait for Farmine and Diablo’s book. I have high hopes for it!

This series hurts so good! I was completely blown away by Conquest’s book and now I finally have my hands on War and Uriel’s story. Wow. This series kinda makes me speechless. I do love a series that can throw some old ideas and concepts of good and evil, Heaven and Hell and toss them completely around to something you don’t expect. This series does just that. Now we have the horseman War and the angel Uriel locked in a push and pull as old as time. These are not gentle warriors and angels but ruthless beings locked in a fight as old as time. This series isn’t for the light of heart but they are so worth reading! I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book now. There is a soft cliffhanger regarding the overall story and two of the side characters but our two MCs do have an HFN. Did I say I love these guys? And I still love Conquest and Raziel too.

I had absolutely enjoyed Conquest, the first book in The Four Horsemen series. I couldn't believe that I could love and enjoy War even more than Conquest. This is how much I love War and Uriel together. (This doesn't take away my love for Conquest and Raziel.)

I didn't realize I would love Uriel after I hated him so much in Conquest. But after understanding his backstory and War and Uriel's antecedent story together, I totally understand Uriel and where he was coming from. Uriel's backstory just made me bawl my eyes out. His innocence was destroyed. Whoever destroyed it, I want them to be in as much pain as he was made to suffer.

War introduced a new characters, Atlas, Michael and Raphael. I really enjoyed Atlas' and I hope we get to see more of him.

We still have the mystery of who summoned the Four Horsemen. Clues are coming together! I can't wait to find out who!

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

War by Sienna Moreau is the second book in The Four Horsemen series. War has always followed his role as the bringer of chaos after Conquest completes his role as the bringer of upheaval. He’s had an underlying connection with Uriel, the archangel of Diligence, but it’s never stopped him from doing his part to end the world. War and Uriel find themselves thrown together after an unknown source has called upon the Horsemen to bring the end of times. The two immortals know that anything that happens between them is wrong but they’ve been fighting it for so many years that as everything that’s been set in stone for millenia changes, maybe it’s time for them to change too.

War is always ready to bring down his fiery sword and reign violence down. He has enjoyed his centuries upon centuries of lust-addled feuds with Uriel and finds himself unable to watch the archangel be hurt during one particularly difficult battle. The two find themselves thrown into a powerless world and have to rely on each other which is difficult when there’s so much history between them. Their chemistry continues to sizzle as War keeps pushing against the icy walls that Uriel puts between them. War knows that if he’s ever able to get past those walls they could be more powerful together than anyone could ever expect.

War ran his thumb across Uriel’s bottom lip.
“We’ll never be finished,” he said quietly.
“Because we’re in each other’s souls.”

Uriel learned as a young angel to keep his feelings behind high walls because immortals are not immune to honing in on others' struggles and using them against them. Uriel recalls every moment he has shared with War and is fearful to let the man get past his shields. War is not easily deterred and Uriel finds himself weakening because War allows him to feel powerful and wanted for more than just his abilities. The past is not easy to forget though and Uriel keeps on high alert because War’s feelings just seem too good to be true.

Uriel was a wildcat, and War most definitely wanted to find himself under those claws.

I thoroughly enjoy this urban fantasy MM series. The author has truly embodied each Horsemen (so far!) well and you can understand why they are the way they are. This series has some heat behind the intimate scenes that leave readers feeling the MCs connection burning off the pages. I also love the humor infused throughout a rather dark story about the end of times. Thank you Paul for just being the perfect amount of comic relief and leading everything to want to give a giant 6 legged spider a chance. I very much look forward to Famine and Death’s books.

4 stars for War and Uriel finding that together they are capable of so much more.

I like how this author is challenging views on Good and Evil concepts. Twisting things to be viewed differently through the colourful characters in this series.
No less so, than with Uriel and War.

These two became enemies.. not because of who they are… supposedly on opposite sides.. but because of a simple betrayal of trust to a very newly made Angel- Uriel.. we see his journey to ‘ascend’
And it’s traumatic…. His soul is saved as a human.. and he becomes a fledgling Angel. ….. eventually he becomes an Archangel of due diligence.

War… well.. I love his strength, his humour and how he just gets so turned on by Uriel’s disdain and viper tongue! It gets steamy but at the right time and right for the character development.

The action is there right up to 99%

This book does deal more with the concept of God, Angel’s, demons and the war between good and evil. Good can come form Evil and Evil can come from Good, when the ideals get lauded as the only way.
This read may make some feel uncomfortable with the way God is represented in this work of fiction.

I’m excited to see how Famine and Lucifer fair in the next instalment! It doesn’t look good for this pair… so I can’t wait to see how Moreau works towards their, hopefully , happy ending!!

So this is the first book I have read in this series and I must say…WOW!! I am definitely going to have to go back and read book one because I did not know this series existed. Whit how amazing book 2 is I have to go back to book 1! This book is about War, he is funny and fiercely loyal to his brothers. War falls for Uriel, which I have to do it I was not a huge fan of him in the beginning, BUT, I totally fell in love with him in this book! Seeing War work to crack Uriel’s tough outer shell and get down to his core was a truly beautiful thing. Seeing these two men learn how to love each other made this book so amazing! I’m so excited to go back and read book 1 and I am also VERY excited to read Famine’s book! I can’t wait!!!

I. JUST. CANT!!!

OMG. I have soooo many questions.

To begin this book I disliked Uriel. Seriously. But as the story went on and we learned how be became the character we know and enjoyed, my feelings changed. I became invested in his growth and his ability to learn love. That he was no longer a yes man, but one that thought for himself.

War, as always was amazing. Hes is funny, full of himself and stead fastly loyal to his brothers. But seeing him crack Uriels shell, teach him love, support him as he learned new truths..... made me adore him more.

My heart is broken for Famine and Sam. I cant wait for their book.
This author is amazing. This take on heaven, hell and the horsemen is beyond..... roll on books three and four.

This was simply excellent. I really enjoyed Conquest, but War had a depth of history added to the relationship with some heartbreaking moments. It was utterly divine. Uriel and War are both very strong characters, and being together doesn't change that. They are two sides of the same coin and fit together perfectly. Lots of action in this book to keep you entertained too. I can't wait for Famine's book.

Boring

I really despise all the name shifting. This wasn't as bad as the first but it was still pretty annoying. I figure that each group knows Samuael by a different name. To the horseman he is Samuael/Diablo but to the angels he is Micheal/Lucifer. Maybe...I don't know. Even if they are two people they are still both the archangel of kindness or had been anyways. This story is still a confusing mess. I think some heavy editing and beta readers are needed. If the author has both, they need to be fired cause they aren't doing their job at all.

So, I noticed today that a 5th book is listed on Amazon now titled "Atlas" and scheduled for August 2024. The description says it's about Atlas, Conquest, and Raziel. FUUUUUUCCCCKKKKK YESSSSSSSS

While I don't know what the book will bring, I completely trust this author to deliver. I'm guessing it will fill in what a lot of us wanted to see. This is EXACTLY what this series needed. The lack of visibility into Atlas' character and their triangle was my #1 issue by far. The rest of the series is nearly perfect if that issue is fixed. I will certainly be updating my review again once Atlas releases.

Holy fuck, I can't wait. I'm SOOO fucking excited. This series is probably going to make it to my "favorites of all time" now.

THANK YOU, AUTHOR!

Original review:

This is a whole series review, with individual feedback by book as well. Overall rating, 3.5 rounded up because it's a really good series, especially for a debut author. It would be a 4.5 or maybe even 5 if not for a couple tolerable but really annoying issues/creative decisions.

It's not as dark as I thought it'd be (and I read a lot of dark stuff). Sure, there's violence and disregard for human life, but it's not highly detailed in most places. There are a few scenes that are a bit shocking throughout, though.

The world-building is pretty damn good, mostly consistent. I never lost immersion in the universe.

Every book is well-edited and constructed. It's clear the author spent a lot of effort making this a great series.

Conquest
This book is awesome, the best of the series, 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. I wish it was ~100 pages longer or so, but it's current length is acceptable. Surprising for such a new author.

Conquest and Raziel just work. I loved how loyal and faithful Conquest became with Raziel. Conquest always giving in to Raziel's curiosity and innocence is so fucking sweet.

The sex and intimacy between the two is so fucking hot. Sooooo hot. Conquest likes to dominate and own Raziel, and Raziel holds nothing back.

One thing I didn't like... (mild spoiler for an early scene) Not a huge issue, but annoying enough that it's a 4.5 instead of 5.

War
Yeah, so War and Uriel are my second favorite couple, and their story is well done. 4 stars. Uriel gets on my nerves a bit because he's so fucking stubborn and blind despite being thousands and thousands of years old, but the humor and teasing from War does a lot to offset his abrasiveness. Individually ranked, War is one of the best characters in the series.

The bit about their past together, especially when they talk about (moderate spoiler/reveal of late book plot element) was a tad bit confusing. It didn't come out of nowhere... but it didn't have as much build up to it as I'd expect when they were having that final conversation.

Famine
This is the hardest one to rate. I'm going with 3 stars, maybe a 3.5 rounded down? I like Famine, he's the most morally stable and least reprehensible Horseman. Lucifer though? Eh, I totally get why he is the way he is. He got royally fucked over. But it was just so hard to relate to him in any way beyond him being in love. He's vicious at times, and the up/down extreme rollercoaster is a bit tiring. But it wasn't intolerable.

The biggest issue I had: (mild spoiler about Lucifer's past involvment with the Horsemen and Heaven)

I really don't understand Famine's powers much, either. Like I get he's powerful, but it just seems like such a mixed bag? It wasn't all that distracting, but I never quite knew what to expect from him, unlike Conquest, War, and Death.

This book was saved a bit by more detailed involvement of the overarching God plot. There's one major issue I have with the series as a whole, and it starts in this book, but it primarily comes out in Death's book, so I'll save those comments for that section of this review...

Death
This was my least favorite by far. I'm not sorry I read it because it does conclude the series very nicely. But damn there's some infuriating shit in it. I really wish the author went a different direction.

First off, I generally hate most of Abaddon's personality. He bitches and moans so fucking much. It's so fucking exhausting. I started skimming Death/Abaddon only scenes around 30%. I didn't miss much. It reminded me of Uriel bitching to War, but like way more annoying and frequent, plus War wasn't there for comic relief. It was just too much.

Secondly, the sadism/masochism/blood stuff did absolutely nothing for me. The other 3 books weren't like that, so it was a very abrupt change with this book. Don't get me wrong, to each their own kinks, but that's not my kink. I don't like when one particular book in a series deviates from the general content found in the other books. It's like if an M/M series has an M/F book in the middle or end of it... uhhh I'm reading for M/M, but now I have to skim this M/F if I want to continue with the series that has an overarching plot line? Feels bad, man. I almost didn't read this final book because of it. But instead, I just literally skimmed all of the Abaddon/Death sex scenes. It wasn't hot to me at all, and I didn't miss anything.

Now! We finally get to my biggest complaint by far about this series. It's the thing I mentioned started in Famine's book... (moderate to big spoiler about Conquest/Raziel and their involvement of a third)

I generally liked Death's character, and I love how different he felt from his brothers' characters. It was just a weird pairing with Abaddon, plus a weird third-person perspective on the Conquest/Raziel/Atlas situation.

Given these issues, I have to rate Death at 2 stars. I'm going to bump it up to 2.5 for the well-done epilogue, because it really is that good. (Yet again surprised this is a debut series.) But still rounded down ultimately. I can't completely forgive the Conquest/Raziel/Atlas issue, nor the switch up to sadism/masochism at the end of the series.

---

I really loved Gaia throughout the series, and I thought the overall ending was very well-executed. It's not overbearing but also not a "wham, bam, done in 5 pages or less" conclusion.

But, it's still a great series, and I'm really glad I read it. I haven't read a series this good in quite a while. I'm really hoping the author gives us a follow-up to it with Conquest, Raziel, and Atlas.

I'll read any MM/MM+ this author writes in the future, without question. They're that good.

This book follows directly the events of “Conquest”. This time, War and Uriel are trapped together in a dangerous and unknown dimension while having to deal with their feelings.
I already liked War from the first book, he is so funny and I was glad to learn more about him, he’s more complex than we may think first: even though he loves to fight, he’s a great strategist and a competent leader. We also learn to like prickly and ruthless Uriel, the Archangel of Diligence.
I loved the dialogues and banters between these two. Unlike Con and Raz, War and Uri already formed a life-long link since Uriel’s mortal life. They obviously take some time to understand that they are meant to be together and to accept it but they become sappy fools and it’s cute. I enjoyed the pacing given by Ambrose’s flashbacks (the flashbacks themselves made me sorrowful); it was difficult for me to put the book away when I had to.

It is a good idea that there isn’t a pause between the events in each book, it makes the style fluent and coherent. I always love groups who stay together in book series as a team or a family so, I was happy to find the other Horsemen again and to learn more about Famine and Lucifer’s past as the Archangel Samael.
I guess all the Immortal Beings need to accept that there is love for them all.

I’m a little frustrated that we didn’t get more details about how the humans reacted to Demons and the Apocalypse in this book.
Sometimes it was like humans had all been decimated already and that they no longer existed or that we looked from afar while they all died painfully during the Apocalypse. Even though none of the Immortals cares about what will happen to them (which makes sense because most of humans will die in the Horsemen’s Apocalypse anyway), thinking about the families, the children… and not having a single clue about how many people survived, it was a strange feeling.

Now, I absolutely need to talk about Atlas: finally, the Horsemen are working with the US Army to stop Lucy’s plans… And then, continue their work. Atlas is the only human we’ve seen interacting the Immortals. He’s absolutely amazing. For me, this guy is carrying humanity on his shoulders. Which is ironic, because his name is Atlas like the Titan in the Greek mythology who is carrying the heavenly vault on his shoulders. He’s so brave and strong-willed, hardworking…
I also felt so sad for Raphael and Michael. I hope they find their paths to each other again. I hope we’ll learn more information about the Dead Dimension in the next book.
After Paul, Uri and War are adopting Alba, so cute! I absolutely recommend “War” and can’t wait to read “Famine”!

Oh my goodness what a great read! I love books and will read just about anything. As such I always try to find something about the book that I enjoyed. So when I randomly discover an author like Sienna Moreau, I literally giggle. Then twirl a bit. Then sit down and savor every single page. This is book two of the author’s Four Horseman series and it is so well done. Every writer has at least one thing they are good at…and that is cool. But there are those relatively few authors who excel at pretty much everything in their novel..and Ms. Moreau is one of them.

First let me say that on a snark scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest amount of snark…pretty much every character comes in at a 10. Even a horse. Second, Sienna Moreau could teach a course on pacing out an enemy-to-lover storyline. It is one thing to have that type of slow burn building in a believable manner but to craft it so artfully that the reader is not reeeeaally sure what is going to happen until the last few pages? Well, that’s just genius.

There is a lot of sexy time but none of it feels gratuitous. I mean, you have the Horseman of War…and the biggest badass Archangel…..grrrrrrr. But the steamy bits are all integral to the protagonist’s relationship. These two immortal dudes have been maiming one another for millennia so there is gonna be a lot of pent up testosterone everywhere.

These characters, as well as so many others in the story are for the most part morally grey…which I love. Because isn’t that what most people are if we are truly honest? Speaking of the characters, the author wins another award for best character development. When you read this book you will see what I mean. Very few writers can start a book with “I’m going to gut you” and end the book with “I will never leave you” in any believable way (I don’t think any of those words were actually used). But Ms. Moreau was able to do that and much more. If the book blurb sounds appealing to you then this is a must read.

The first book pushed all my happy buttons... this didn't. I loved Raziel and Conquest's romance.... War and Uriel's was lackluster. Their push and pull should have chemistry and burn the pages but it didn't.

Mostly I had issues with Uriel. For someone that supposedly still felt deeply the loss of his family he was easily dismissive of mortals and whatever happened to them for the sake of the greater good that was never said what exactly it was but followed blindly for it and did things leaning towards despicable just because "God" asked it of him. What got to me though mostly was the fact that even when he had all the puzzle pieces he was still not seeing the picture when it came to him and War. And the fact that he was still willing to follow after everything, after he was used as a puppet for a purpose he knows nothing about... *siiigh* he annoyes me but boy did he have chemistry with War.

When the ILUs came I was surprised because in neither POV did we had glimpses of them feeling more than the right now. So how they got there was muddled.

A lot of War and Uriel's history is also muddled. I'm guessing what happened with Samael, the Generals and purgatory moving to Hell is going to be explained in the next book but doesn't Uriel know? Why was he so easily against the Horsemen and regarding them as enemies, even though War threw to his face that when they were called from them all was a-ok?

Also gotta say that when they were in the Dead Dimension I thought that it was the dimension from which the flashbacks were coming from, so that was a nice little confusing part that didn't clear up till the end.

Anyways... the next one promises to be a doozy and I can't wait for Death's book because we have no info whatsoever hinted for him.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

not bad and not great though. The first book was better IMO. I was really excited to read about War and Uriel however i was left wanting. War alone was great a character and his snarky self was a delight. Uriel on the other hand.....was something.
(personally i don't like the idea of fated mates set in stone by whatever power in a book.)

the first half, while it had its purpose in a way, went on for too long with relatively repetitive aspects.
then the way God wraps in the storyline as "a villain"... idk about that. i'd rather he was kept largely out of the entire story as a disappearance or "non playable character" who leaves these being to their devices but under a set context. Its not sitting right with me what he is made out to be and this affecting my enjoyment. My Opinion

While the second half picked up, i felt it was cut short in terms of War's story. He was supposed to pave the way for Famine and his story but the book spent time on a love story n not war's actual purpose as a Horseman. Conquest found love as he was fulfilling his purpose, I expected way more from War especially since the author alluded to higher power for each horseman in progression.
i only hope Book 3 of Famine's story is not just about a weeping crybaby stuck in unrequited love of some sort. Book 1 gave the impression that he was calm responsible fearsome Horseman but book 2 changed that perception.

anyway, cheers
