Do you happen to be missing Adrien English at the moment? This is the book for you! (Tbh, Ellery is very much like him and I love that!)
However if you're going into this looking for a romance you'll be disappointed. BUT, keep trekking along with this series and I know you won't be disappointed in the eventual romance....more

And shortly after fell in love with whole host of characters. Overall McCade's writing is exactly what I love, incorporating suspense, humor, excellent characterization and appropriate pacing, down to his choice of words and metaphors. This book was successful with regards to above mentioned.
The final chapters leave us with a feeling of anticipation and I just want to gobble up the entire of season 2 already! I'm really looking forward to the other books in the series!...more

If I could compare this book to emotions I'd say it's the first small peak of exhilaration and excitement before we hit the climax of the finale book. The tone of this book feels like an inhalation and a holding of our breath. There are major plot lines that are left to be tied up in the finale book which have been spurred on by the action in this book. All of this is typical of books of this genre and expected but this formula is one that we enjoy greatly because it keeps us intrigued.
The most intriguing character of this book is still Sila and also, Seong-Jae. Sila has been this all-knowing, all-powerful and omniscient presence for so long and I believe we'll finally be able to see who he really is even though this book provides us with only a little insight but one major action that will hopefully serve to humanize him in the following book. There's also still a lot we do not know about Seong-Jae even though this book has shed a considerable amount of light on his past. And Malcolm remains a reliable pillar at Seong-Jae's side throughout this book.
One thing I adore about McCade's writing is the lack of sensationalizing of events. He does not take cheap shots or the easy way out of situations by killing off characters for the sake of excitement or promoting misunderstanding through miscommunication. While Seong-Jae remains stubborn at most points, it is reflective of who he is and not for the purposes of exhausting readers.
I also must add that I'm always excited to read the afterword of each of these books. They're edifying and add context and a sense of realism to the books. At the end it never feels like fiction you're reading but rather a realistic examination of the current social and political climate....more
