Given the widespread popularity of international football, professional footballers continue to earn substantial salaries each year. French footballer Kylian Mbappe, who recently moved to Real Madrid from Paris Saint Germain (PSG), took a pay cut to join the UEFA Champions League winners. However, his currently annual salary is still higher than the annual amount earned by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as part of their contracts with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and their respective Indian Premier League teams, according to Hindustan Times.

Besides their annual salary of Rs 7 crore, the Indian cricketers (Kohli and Sharma) also receive Rs 15 lakh for each Test match, Rs 6 lakh for an international ODI match, and Rs 3 lakh per T20 game. Kohli and Sharma earn a notable amount from their IPL contracts as well, Rs 15 crore and Rs 16 crore, respectively.

In contrast, Mbappe, as per his new lucrative deal with Los Blancos, will earn a salary of Rs 285 crore in his first year, which comes down to Rs 23.7 crore each month, Rs 79 lakh per day and Rs 5,486 every minute at Santiago Bernabéu, Hindustan Times reports. Previously, he earned a staggering €630 million (approximately Rs 5,810 crore), which breaks down to around €6 million (approximately Rs 55 crore) each month at PSG, according to Economic Times. The star footballer's cumulative net worth is estimated at $180 million (Rs 1,510 crore).

Owning a football team

A few weeks after joining his dream club Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe spent a whopping amount of €20 million (approximately Rs 184 crore) to acquire a majority stake in Ligue 2 side Caen, according to Goal. The move made him one of the youngest club owners in Europe. Meanwhile, the remainder of the shares, which are reported to be worth around €5 million (approximately Rs 46 crore) are owned by Mediawan CEO Pierre-Antoine Capton.
