Public Engagement

The NC State University Libraries provides a variety of services to support your community-engaged research and teaching and to help you share your work with the public. If you're interested in collaborating, contact our Lead Librarian for Public Science, Karen Ciccone.

Showcasing Your Work

Through our exhibits, programs, and event series, the Libraries offers platforms to share your work in experiential, vibrant ways with large and diverse audiences, including members of the Raleigh community and beyond. Our staff brings expertise in program planning, audience development, collaboration, visitor relations, and marketing to support public engagement. If you would like to work with the Libraries to develop an event or outreach activity, please contact Marian Fragola.

Addressing Broader Impacts

If you are a researcher applying for NSF funding, and you need to craft a strong broader impacts statement, our broader impacts guide can help. We can connect you with campus partners and programs and offer guidance on the content and composition of the broader impacts section of grant proposals.

Citizen Science

The Libraries supports citizen science and shares its values of openness, access, and community engagement and participation. We lend technology in support of the NC State Citizen Science Campus. We can also partner to help organize citizen science challenges that engage our campus community in studying our campus and generating new knowledge.

Open Research

One of the most powerful ways to contribute to public engagement is to ensure that your research is openly discoverable, accessible, and understandable online. The Libraries can advise on best practices, common workflows, tools, and processes for making research and scholarship more open and reproducible, and the OPEN Incubator introduces participants to general open research principles and practices.

Open Education

We are committed to fostering change in the teaching and learning environment. The Libraries can help you develop open educational resources that engage the public in shared learning and collaborative teaching and learning practices.

Data & Visualization

A good data visualization can help you communicate your work more effectively. The Libraries can provide support if you are working with data, creating visualizations, using geospatial methodologies, or employing new digital methods and approaches.

Digital Media Production

Interested in showcasing your work through a video or podcast, or exploring the possibilities of immersive experiences using virtual or augmented reality? Video, audio, and VR/AR production spaces, technology, and help are available in the Libraries.
