Black and Hispanic/Latino communities are at higher risk of vision loss from diabetes, the leading cause of preventable blindness. To change this, we need to tackle the root causes of health inequities through community-centered solutions. That’s why we teamed up with the American Diabetes Association on the #HealthEquityNow initiative, increasing access to comprehensive and dilated eye exams across 50+ community locations in Birmingham, Alabama and now applying our insights to the Washington D.C. area. Learn more about this important work from Danielle Haney, PhD, Director of Patient Advocacy Relations at Genentech below.

We’re honored to receive the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association’s 2024 ACE Aspire Award for our efforts to improve access to healthcare and medical innovations for women globally. Women are a cornerstone of healthy societies, but their unique health needs have historically been under-researched and underfunded. Together, with colleagues across Roche, we have worked to shine a light on the importance of women-centric healthcare through deep engagement with employees and external collaborators to reshape health systems and explore solutions to close gaps in care. We look forward to continuing this work and having our industry peers join us so that all communities can access the healthcare they need and deserve.

We are excited to congratulate the 2024 HBA ACE Award honorees: - 2024 ACE winner: Takeda's Gender Equity Strategy: Paving the Way for a Diverse and Inclusive Future - 2024 ACE Aspire winner: Roche/Genentech: Elevating Women’s Health Around the World - 2024 Honorable Mention: UCB Pharma's Women in Leadership ERG These companies are being recognized for exemplary workplace initiatives working to close the gender gap in the #healthcare and life sciences industries. At last year's TED AI, Aviv Regev, our Head of Genentech Research and Early Development, gave a talk on the impact of artificial intelligence on drug discovery. Every step in making medicines is hard, from discovering the right target to generating the right medicine to predicting the right dose for the right patient. But by blending science with technology, we can transform and accelerate the drug discovery process, and more efficiently bring new treatments to patients. To close out #DisabilityPrideMonth, our very own SMA My Way contributor, James Ian, was invited to the White House for a special performance of SPACES, a first-of-it’s kind musical collaboration with the spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) community. SPACES uses the universal language of music to amplify the many voices of the disability community and celebrate individuality. A huge congratulations to James for kicking off #SMAAwarenessMonth in such an impactful way! Don’t forget to check out SPACES here: https://lnkd.in/g_tZxCH6

Today we’re announcing the expansion of our #HealthEquityNow initiative with the ADA into the Washington, D.C. area to dismantle access barriers to high quality eye care. Black and Hispanic/Latinx people living with diabetes are at higher risk of losing their vision or going blind compared to white diabetes patients. Building on lessons learned from the first year of our initiative in Birmingham, AL, where we reached more than 4,100 community members through 50 eye screening events, we’re proud to continue deepening this impact to ensure all people affected by diabetes can access the care they need to prevent vision loss.

While we’ve made a considerable amount of progress in understanding multiple sclerosis (MS), there’s still much work to be done to improve outcomes for people living with the condition. That’s why we recently brought together influential voices from the community to share their experiences with barriers to care, and challenges they’ve experienced in hopes of helping others who have been diagnosed. Thank you to Victoria Marie Reese, Mitzi Joi Williams M.D., FAAN, and Julie Stamm for participating!
