This is what I love about materials science. Anything and everything can be a question to solve, and there's always a new way to look at all of the matter around us- from bug legs to new classes of semiconductors. Providing tools to young students to explore the world around them is how it all starts. #materialsscience #materialsengineering
“We didn’t give the students instructions, just empowered them to solve problems," said Carl Thrasher, a DMSE grad student who spearheaded the science discovery program EMERGE.

Imagine standing at the edge of a vast forest, the path ahead shrouded in mist. Your quest is to discover the secrets hidden within, but the expanse is vast, and your resources are finite. How do you decide which path to take, ensuring your journey yields meaningful discoveries? This scenario mirrors the challenge faced by researchers in determining the appropriate sample size for their studies—a process that, at first glance, might seem like an educated guess but is, in reality, an intricate blend of science and strategy.

Capturing Value for Both Customers and Business 👉🏻 calendly.com/jan-pasia/chat-with-pash-product-manager
I'm quite surprised to learn about the Philippine province that is the most vulnerable with regards to typhoon relief operations. Ironically, the same province experienced unfortunate amounts of flooding around the same time that the research was published in the journal. Policymakers and scientists are indeed not cut from the same cloth; moreso, in the Philippine context. In marrying these 2 parties, it is a matter of initiating the conversation from the point of domain expertise (science or technology), instead of waiting for a time of need from the other side (policy or business). #researchpaper #philippines #disasterriskreduction #datapower
“Doing scientific research is a very focused activity and involves discussion mostly among our small group of collaborators (and peer reviewers),” Dr. Reyes continued. “So having this opportunity to take the fruits of this work to the highest levels of leadership in the country is quite fulfilling at a different level.” Hats off to Harvey Sapigao and the hardworking UP Diliman College of Science Communication Team, who have been instrumental in communicating our research to reach a wider audience— without their work, it would not have come to the attention of our policymakers, and we would not have gotten this opportunity in the first place. Looking forward to more collabs to bring UP science closer to the people we ultimately serve. 🙏🙏🙏
