DAY 2 #COY18 Global Youth Statement Handed Over #COY18: Global Youth Statement Handed Over to His Excellency Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of UNFCCC We were honoured to have had H.E. Simon Stiell, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, join us to accept the Global Youth Statement (GYS). His impactful statements resonated with our call for united action, emphasising that this COP is crucial in gaining global attention. “These demands and the whole statement carry enormous moral weight. It does so because of the tremendous amount of work that you've put into ensuring that it represents children and youth from all over the world. With an impressive 110 local conferences of youth and nine regional conferences, as well as 750,000 inputs from 160 countries, this statement can be heard, loud and clear as the voices of youth“, Simon Stiell mentioned in his speech at COY18. Stiell praised the clarity and weight of the Condensed Demands, acknowledging the significant efforts made to represent the voices of children and youth. He voiced unwavering support, recognizing the importance of our collective work. Stiell reinforced the focus on solutions, stressing the "how" as the key to success. Change may be challenging, but it is our collective wisdom, especially from youth, women and indigenous communities, that will guide us toward a sustainable future.

One week ago, we met in Brussels for a GENDERACTIONplus conference ERA of Inclusive Gender Equality, to discuss and mobilise for future policies and actions for intersectional gender equality in #Research & #Innovation in the European Research Area. If you could not be with us, we have a recording of the day available now on our YouTube channel. It's been fantastic to see the commitment as well as camaraderie in the room, and I look forward to working with all ERA stakeholders to make sure that #genderequality sticks. A lot has been achieved in the past four years in terms of putting new topics on the agenda and advancing on others, but as we make progress, we identify new issues and needs #intersectionality #GBV #BES #monitoring & #evaluation Achieving gender equality is not something we can do in a three-year policy cycle. The support is strong now for gender equality in ERA Policy Agenda 2025 - 2027, and we must keep it so for Framework Programme 10.

On this #SustainabilitySunday, let’s reflect on the journey that led to the creation of the United Nations. Established on October 24, 1945, in the aftermath of World War II, 50 nations came together to work towards a future of peace, prosperity, and human rights for all. The UN Charter, their guiding document, set the stage for a world that strives to break free from the cycle of violence, conquest, and dominance that history had witnessed for centuries. Throughout the years, our collective awareness has evolved, recognizing the urgent need for a more inclusive and sustainable world. Yet, remnants of the old mindset persist today. That's where the 17 Sustainable Development Goals come into play. Goal 5.5, in particular, seeks to empower women's full and effective participation across all levels of leadership – be it political, economic, or public life. Until we reach that goal, history might keep repeating itself. How can we collectively shape a world where 50% of leadership roles are held by women? The United Nations believes it's possible, and it's a challenge worth embracing. 🤝🌎 #UnitedNationsDay #sustainability #womenempowerment #womeninleadership
