A productive week spent at the Brewers Association CBC in Vegas, meeting suppliers, brewers, and event organizers. Massive thanks to the Brewers Association and Konvoy for their support. Excited to share that there are lots of BD opportunities for We Are Beer down the line. Looking forward to a productive summer working with both organizations over here in the UK. Despite the challenges that the industry is facing globally, leaving Las Vegas feeling pretty positive. Why? ➡ Because the topline trading numbers are decent and people still want premium. The raw material for commercial success is there. ➡ Because the craft and indy sector is where the vast majority of "new" in beer starts, and where the creative capital lies - both brands and products. ➡ Because we're entering into a new phase for good beer and we haven't really seen the sector make its move post-covid. Knowing and meeting the hard working and smart people in beer, and seeing some of the plans and strategies coming into play, I think you'll see good beer kick on again. Which is great for the whole category. Excited to get stuck in.

By all means not an easy competition pour testing, detailed recipe knowledge, beer knowledge, blind beer tasting, wine knowledge description taste profiles, along with speed and hospitality. The judging, comes down to a fraction an ounce. A lineup of beers and describing the taste profile and what type of beer it is what kind of style it is. What kind of varietal that wine is just by the smell and taste. Is it two drops of bitters or four is it a lemon or an orange ?Doing all this while lineup of judges analyzes your every move. Do you have what it takes to best on tap?

The term "sober curious" used to be a buzzword mostly tied the month of January but it's now a year-round affair - pretty crazy to see how views on this concept have changed in just a few years. Love the interview with Bill Shufelt from Athletic Brewing Co. ---they're a great of example of what can happen when you make a great product. And now they're the top selling beer in Whole Foods Market (alcoholic or non)?? Wild. Also another example of a product that's taken a regular place in my fridge. If someone buys Red Lobster for a song, we volunteer to be the new comprehensive comms and marketing provider, we have a lot of ideas. 1. Licensing The Boondocks IP for a date night + cheddar biscuits centric campaign. 2. "Finite Shrimp" promotion that provides portion control as a service while controlling costs. It's a revolutionary idea: what if you paid money, and then got a pre-determined amount of food? 3. Cruise line integration strategy. 4. Minor league hockey centric sports and promotion strategy starting with an Athens Rock Lobsters deal. 5. Investor communication strategy centered on making fun of the country's most evil, strip-the-parts-and-run firms, because good, longtermist investors know and hate these people and would love to laugh at them. Desperately sad to see high-quality operations like North Brewing Co struggling like this. The government seems determined to do nothing about our independent pubs breweries going to the wall. The cost of living crisis is also a cost of brewing crisis. Energy, premises costs, wages, ingredients, everything is only going up in price and drinkers don't have the money to cover these increases at the tap. Politicians love to waving the Union Jack and staging grinning photo-ops with pint in hand but what is Britishness, what is our culture if it isn't our pubs and our glorious brewing history? There seems to be no shortage of funds available for fossil fuel businesses though. Since 2015 businesses engaged in new extraction and mining of fossil fuels have received £80 billion from the UK government. The smallest sliver of this would be sufficient to support our sector and we'd be a much happier, richer, nation for it.
