New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr and the rest of the first-string offense didn't have a great start to the preseason during Saturday's contest against the Arizona Cardinals.

Carr got the start, and lasted only two underwhelming drives on offense for the road team. He was replaced by second-year reserve QB Jake Haener in the first quarter.

The 10-year pro finished 2-of-6 for 12 yards while seeing action on the first two drives of the game. Carr had one pass that was deflected near the line of scrimmage and nearly intercepted.

"It's frustrating, because you're getting ready for a game but you're not game-planning; I didn't even know who was gonna be out there jersey number-wise, but the execution, getting through the play calls — of course you want to score and win — but the communication, getting in and out of the huddle, we wanted to execute, and that was good for the first time out." Carr said during a mid-game interview with Fox 8.

Carr noted that fans didn't get a full look at what new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's system has to offer.

"Today, you don't get to see any of it," Carr said. 'Practice has only been friends and family, and it's hard in a preseason game because you don't show anything. I feel bad for our fans, but it's going to be exciting when we get out there for the regular season."

Carr's highlight of the game was a 10-yard completion to Chris Olave for first down.

It remains to be seen how much action Carr will get the rest of the preseason with Haener and rookie Spencer Rattler in a competition to serve as his backup.
