Amazing service! Had all the parts I needed for my Breville barista express. Very knowledgeable staff on a wide variety of espresso machines and offer repairs as well.

They quickly replied to my questions via email and I was able to pick up my parts on the same day.

Highly recommend them! If you are ever looking to purchase espresso machines, grinders, parts etc, they have you covered.

I can't tell you whether I just got to be the unlucky one, but wanted to share this story.

My JURA Z8 went into Kanen last November after the grinder got stuck. They performed their diagnosis and provided an estimate, which ended up at ~$935.

When I picked it up right before Christmas, I was told that nothing was really wrong with it, they just took it apart and performed a deep cleaning service, and I should use the machine normally and perhaps run the cleaning cycle more regularly than when it asks for (it's fully automated) to avoid the problem repeating.

Did as advised. After getting it back, I noticed that the grinder wasn't quite "packing" the coffee grounds as tightly as before - there was always a little loose coffee around as well - but it made coffee, so I wasn't overly concerned.

Not until a couple of weeks ago when it started making an awful mechanical grinding sound at the end of making coffee. It started small and wasn't consistent but it was getting worse so I eventually reached back out to Kanen.

That's when I learned that it is practically impossible to reach these folks with a problem. Sure, you can schedule a new appointment on the website (with a non refundable fee) but that's about it.

I tried calling and leaving a VM, sending email, texting, repeat ad nauseum. Eventually one of their techs sent me a dry email response, but by that time the machine fully died - and as you can see from the picture, the reason for all the trouble is that Kanen didn't properly put it back together when they serviced it... That little bolt fell onto the tray slot out of (I assume) the brew group, which is now broken.

I asked again that someone call me. Nada. Then they texted me to see if I was happy with their response... At that point I lost all trust in them and reached out to JURA directly, where I am sending my machine now, paying $500 to fix the mistake that Kanen charged almost $1000 to create in the first place.

I sent a long text with the same image to them and the final answer from them was... Drumroll please... "I am just an admin" and wishing me good luck with JURA (I kid you not). I still have not received a call back, even after all of that (you'd think a small business owner would be concerned especially after I sent them all this information a couple of days ago).

Their comms are atrocious. Their ownership of their work is disastrous. Again, I may simply be the unlucky one, as others clearly have had a good experience with this place. They are very nice in person, but this is not a place I would recommend to anyone myself, ever.

JURA can be hard to get a hold of on the phone, which is why I went to Kanen in the first place, but if you have one of their automated machines, my suggestion is send it to them. It's worth the extra hassle. Right now I'm looking into whether I can still open a dispute over the CC charges for the December "work" Kanen did, but in the meantime, wanted to share the story here.

My Rancilio Silvia machine is just over 10 years old now and the steam wand was dying on me. It would leak steam even unless I cranked the knob as hard as possible all the way down. It made frothing creamy milk inconsistently while also effecting my espresso pulls. The crew at Kanen Coffee replaced the entire wand part for about $200 bucks and I feel like I have a brand new machine; perfectly silky steamed milk and my espresso shots are back to pure crema once again. I always feel a little embarrassed picking up my simple boxy espresso machine at Kanen when I see all those elegantly designed super pricy machines sitting at the entrance of their shop, but this humble metal box continues to make an exceptional cappuccino for me every morning. Thank you Sam for all your skillful service over the years that we've had this machine.

So glad I found this business! Was considering buying online but had some concerns about shipping and customer service. I was able to speak to a very knowledgeable employee who answered all my questions and I was home pulling shots that afternoon.

I'm not one to generally give bad reviews but this situation was pretty bad. spent $1,000 on having my home machine rebuilt - new pump, rebuilt group head, etc.

When I got the machine back it didn't work properly. They tried to fix it twice and couldn't get it to work properly.

When I asked to bring it in again they said the 30-day repair warranty period was over and they'd need more money to look at it again. I reminded them I had spent $1,000 to get it working again and it never really worked properly from the start. Asked them to either refund me the $1,000 or give me the money towards a new machine. Refused this as well.

Ironically I took the machine Jim in Half Moon Bay and he fixed it right away. it was a simple $45 valve and $250 to diagnose it. he couldn't understand how they couldn't figure out such a simple problem. And this of course makes me question what they did for the original $1,000.

Having owned espresso machines for some time they occasionally need repair. Before Kanen Coffee came around I was having to mail my machine all the way up to Oregon at great cost to get it serviced. Kanen Coffee opened in Berkeley and it's been terrific ever since. They have done a great job on my machine each time, returned to me shiny and new looking, and working excellently.

If you have a coffee machine and it needs fixing this is the best spot I'm aware of, at least in Northern California to get your machine serviced. They sell a bunch of great coffee products too, machines, cleaners, portafilters, and the the typical accessories you might want or need for your machine.

I have been going to Kanen Coffee-Espresso Machines for a number of years now. They provide a wonderful service and have kept my Jura coffee machine in fine working order over the years. The staff are polite and respectful, and patiently answer any questions that I might have. I am grateful for this small business. I am happy to support them with my business, and I give them my highest of recommendations.

I would not recommend doing business here. I paid over $500 to have my Breville espresso machine fixed. The first time we picked it up, it did not function so we brought it back. Went to pick it up the 2nd time and noticed the hot water did not flow continuously, missed any typically sized cup and spilled into the tray. They kept it for another week or so before eventually giving up. I asked for a reasonable refund given there were unresolved issues...they refused, never provided any type of counteroffer and instead threatened to charge storage fees for keeping the machine.

The biggest issue here boils down to customer service. The owner, Sam, was aware of the situation, but never spoke to me until I asked for him when I eventually picked up my machine with unresolved issues. Interestingly enough, it seems he'll reply to negative reviews, but won't answer an email to serve his customers. I wouldn't recommend doing business here and if you do, think long and hard before paying an invoice before services are delivered...we learned the hard way!

I brought My Rocket Giotto evo R Espresso Machine to Kanen in September 2023 for repair of burnt out wires coming out of the main switch. Just past the warranty period expired in January 2024 the machine stopped working. I found that the same wires were cooked again. The one problem wire was not replaced by Kanen and it appeared that it was poorly attached to a connector which was shorted again.
