This is a tribute as much as a review since, if things went according to plan, as of 1/15/09 Mr. Pearson is RETIRED.

I lived around the corner near Haight and Steiner for years and walked past his window display of old stoves many times but it did not occur to me to call until our heating furnace went out over a holiday weekend. I got the message that he was retiring but he was still willing to take the walk up the street and fix our heater within a few minutes and at a reasonable cost.

Safe travels and enjoy your retirement, Mr. Pearson. And I'm sure whoever is buying the business is a person of integrity so I'd continue to use this service.

      I just contacted a lawyer.

That's how terrible these guys are.

I gave them a downpayment for a dishwasher part that was on backorder. That was back in October. They have yet to either:

      1) get the part
      2) return the money.

Called multiple times. Full mailbox, keep promising the checks in the mail when I do talk to them. No refund or part

      Don't talk to these guys.

Mr. Pearson returned my phone call and showed up promptly. He was very professional and friendly, fixed my dryer in under an hour and even explained what happened to it, my valve wore out, and made recommendations.
I found out he also refurbishes old stoves, I have a 1950's Wedgewood that needs a little tuneup and will be calling Mr. Pearson again.

I hope you're reading reviews sorted by date. Mr. Pearson himself is the reason for all the positive reviews here and since he retired, I'm not sure many have had positive experiences. The end result of my experience was not only unhelpful, it was also rather confusing.

I called to have someone come and take a look at a dishwasher and the guy that showed up charged a pretty significant service fee, said he couldn't fix the problem then, needed to order a part and left. When I hadn't heard back FIVE days later, I called him to follow up. He said he was "just about to call" me because he was on his way to the parts store but could I remind him which dishwasher it was I was calling about. (Huh?!) He then said he would pick up the part and then needed to take my dishwasher to his shop to test it because there would be "a lot of water". Really? Take my dishwasher out of my home to repair it? I've just never heard of such a thing.

In the end I told him never mind, I called C&C Appliance Repair, and Flavio came and fixed it in under an hour with no parts needing replacement. There goes $75 I'll never see again.

Let me start by saying this: GE sucks.

Instead of spending gazillions of dollars paying Donald Trump, Martha Stewart and Jack Welch and his successors how about spending a few extra bucks making a refrigerator with a water valve that doesn't crap out moments after the warranty expires? (OK, it was a few months after expiration)

How about a "cotomer seviss" call center not in Whateverstan that doesn't have trouble with the simple task of scheduling an appointment? BTW when you choose a fake name choose something easier for you to pronounce. Julian? With an accent like that? Who are you trying to fool? Is someone in HR playing a joke on you?

How about a technician that actually keeps the appointment? (Saying you'll be here between 12 and 4 and calling me after 4 saying you're going to be late is very uncool. Calling me an hour after that and saying you'll have to come another day is inexcusable)

How about honest, prompt, courteous repair service like that provided by Pearson's Appliance Sales and Service?

      Too much to ask?

OK how about something funny on SNL besides Dick in a Box?

      I'm not holding my breath.

Mr. Pearson is a one man operation. He makes his own appointments. He shows up when he says he will. He said he would be at my house at 3:30 not "sometime between 8 and 8" and actually showed up at my house at 3:30. He is honest. A few months ago when one of my tenants' freezer didn't work he said the compressor was dirty and cleaned it instead of saying I needed a new one. Very highly recommended.

Our refrigerator broke the week before Thanksgiving. We called Pearson's and a guy came out. He didn't exude confidence or anything. He said the compressor was broken and they'd have to take it across the bay to Oakland to fix it.

Two days later he hadn't gotten back to me, so I called him and he said they wouldn't have the part until Dec 7. And he was having a hard time finding us a loner fridge.

WTF? Why so long? And why does it need to go to Oakland? I ended up calling someone else who came and fixed it at our home in an hour and a half, two days BEFORE Thanksgiving.

I'm the only one that had a bad experience here?

I called him 5 different times (at least). Each time I'd leave a msg on his answering machine. He would call me back and ask for the model and serial number of the fridge, then I would never hear back from him. So...I'd call him again and do the same thing over again.

I really wanted to have a good experience based on a vendor's recommendation and all of the great reviews here.

Maybe it was my location (but I'm within 2 miles of the Haight) or the sound of my voice on the telephone or something else. What gives?

One star for calling me back and an additional one for having a great Yelp rating.

Too bad,.....this would have been easy business. But, I'm not about to chase a vendor. I just don't have the time.

Our washing machine was in a bad way. Through Service Magic, we put in a service request, and NO ONE responded. Mr. Pearson not only repairs, but he sells appliances. That made me a bit hesitant to utilize his services because I thought I may be led to buying a new machine.

He showed up when scheduled, and I had to leave due to a family emergency. He was so accommodating to my situation and didn't flinch at rescheduling, even though he had already showed up. He gave me the next available appointment, and again showed up as scheduled. He asked a few questions, put up with my nosy cat, isolated the problem, then fixed it. I cut him a check, and he was on his way.

In the following weeks, our washing machine was getting very loud and having additional issues. We called him, and he came very promptly. Turns out there was a problem with the mount he installed. He replaced it right away, with no questions asked.

He was responsible, courteous, friendly, professional, prompt and fair. He didn't sell me anything I didn't need, either. It's so comforting to know that I now have a go-to guy.

So I called Mr. Pearson based on Yelpers' recommendations and wasn't disappointed!

Called me right back, came over, got the oven working again, charged a reasonable fee -- if only everything in life was this easy!

Simon, the technician was very fast and professional. I came home on Sunday to a completely warm fridge and freezer. When I called Pearson's on Monday morning, they were able to come by that day and gave me a half-hour window of when they'd come. I've never had a window that short! After finding the broken part, Simon drove back to the shop to see if he could find a used replacement part that he could install until a new part arrived. He really went out his way to get my fridge up and running! I've already made another appointment for him to fix my washer/dryer.

      Very good!
